Job Description

An extremely sociable gentleman with disabilities who loves getting out and about, living at home in Cockburnspath, is looking for cheerful and friendly personal assistants to join his small team. This gentleman has Angelman Syndrome and lives at home with his Mother. He requires support with all aspects of his care and support to enable him to enjoy his day-to-day life including personal care. He needs a wheelchair when out and about but does have an electric wheelchair which makes it easier to mobilise for the carer.

Terms:

Hours per week: up to 48 hours per week.

Hours of work: Support needed in long blocks to cover 9.30am-9pm but flexible and can be discussed with employer as split with other PA may be possible.

14.60 per hour.

Paid travel up to 9.75/day

Paid annual leave entitlement of 5.6 weeks pro rata

Post subject to successful reference checks and PVG

Probationary period of 3 months



Main Tasks & Responsibilities



To support a disabled person to ensure their safety and well-being.

To support with personal care needs daily as required.

Support with morning routine of assisting to get out of bed, bathed, shaved etc. Strip bed, disinfect and remake when dry, give breakfast and support to the toilet

To support with general care needs such as eating and drinking.

To maintain cleanliness and tidiness of the client's equipment and surroundings.

To develop a positive relationship with the person and his family.

To interact with the client and keep them entertained with activities they enjoy, in the home and the local community.

To support the client in his electric powered wheelchair when in local community.

To work alongside a family member when required but to also be able to work independently.

To accompany the client on short trips out of the house for appointments or social activities as I love to be out and about and love people watching.

Skills and Experience



An awareness of Angelman Syndrome would be desirable

Driving experience desirable along with access to a car with business insurance as the clients loves to get out and about.

Experience is not essential for a candidate with the right personal attributes, but they should be able to show some suitability for the role.
