Working a week on/week off.

You will be working as a Personal Care Assistant for a 24-year-old male with Cerebral Palsy.

The Role:

The Personal Assistant's main role is to enable the client to live the life of his choosing. This means assisting him in all areas of personal, health, communication and social need, as well as acting as a driver, escort, aide and companion in his day-to-day activities.

The PA should understand their role in facilitating his self-defined needs & wishes. They should always ask him what his needs are, listen to and act on the requests and directions given, where safe to do so.

The PA's job is to enable him, to direct, control or manage his life or activities, however the PA is required to ensure that he remains safe in his best interests. The client is diagnosed with a moderate learning disability, and this means that, at times, staff will need to guide and support him in making safe and appropriate decisions, as well as understanding the consequences of decisions.

The PA will be required to work as agreed, to fit with his needs. Flexibility is essential and changes to routine hours will be by agreement. The PA will occasionally need to be able to work additional hours, including overnight, to provide cover as needed

Because the job involves contact with vulnerable adults, the PA will be required to have an enhanced criminal records bureau check.

It is an essential requirement of the post that the PA is a confident driver, age over 21 and has a clean driving licence.

Fantastic Salary:

We're offering a great package with an annual salary of 37,232gpa. PLUS holiday pay at 12.07% of basic hours, overtime at 22ph and pension.

Accommodation:

We provide staff with their own bedroom and ensuite bathroom plus all meals whilst working. Mileage allowance to/from work will also be payable for any candidate living more than 20 miles away.

Days/Hours

:

Live in position, Monday 8am to Friday 9am, working a week on/week off. Core working hours are 9am to 11pm

*Overnight is sleeping care.

Night calls are infrequent, maybe 5 minutes once a week. This job should be your primary employment as you will be expected to be flexible to cover one another in the case of absence, holiday, sickness etc. You will also need to be willing to extend hours on some occasions to accompany the client on holiday/trips i.e. Ibiza, Cornwall, Grand Prix weekend, mini-breaks.

Staff are part of a supportive and friendly team and will sometimes be working 2:1, depending upon the activity i.e. holidays, boccia and hydrotherapy times

About You:

Competent in supporting a disabled person with his personal care. Competent at carrying out domestic tasks (cleaning, laundry, preparing meals and drinks). Ability to speak clear English and communicate on the telephone. Ability to work on their own initiative. Must have a full, clean, UK driving licence and be over 21 years old for insurance purposes Experience of supporting a disabled / elderly person to carry out personal care tasks necessary. Knowledge and experience of supporting young adults and/or those with physical or learning disabilities. Must be reliable and have a high level of commitment to the post. Must present attention to detail in domestic tasks. Must have experience of cleaning a home. A responsible attitude and outlook is essential. Must be prepared to work in a non-smoking home. Be open minded, friendly and willing to support with external activities such as attending social activities and medical appointments. Understanding of social model of disability and how this would shape your approach to the job. A clear understanding of safeguarding practice and professional boundaries. Must be willing to undergo Extended CRB check. Minimum of two references are required, covering the past 5 years.
