3 Personal Assistants (PAs) / Specialist Support Workers - Specialist Support for Young Adult with Autism and Childhood Apraxia of Speech (Wynyard, Billingham)





Hours Breakdown:

Three PAs:


o 8 weekday after-college and evening hours per week (52 weeks per year)
o 16 weekend hours per week (52 weeks per year)
o Remaining 32 weekday hours during college holidays (14 weeks per year)
o Hours to be shared between three PAs
o Schedule to be agreed based on availability and compatibilityo All hours exclude time when the individual is accessing respite care (36 nightsper year)

Driver with own vehicle essential



We are looking for calm, patient, and reliable personal assistants to support a young adult with autism, Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), a learning disability, and sensory and motor skills differences. Support is provided both at home and in the community, following a structured, low-arousal routine developed by the family.



This is a direct employment role with a private family, not via an agency or company.

Key responsibilities include:



Community access (cinema, walks, trampolining, shopping, GP/dental appointments)

Suggesting and planning new activities around individual interests

Encouraging interaction and communication using visual, gesture and modelling strategies

Responding to sensory and motor needs with guidance from family and therapy team

Supporting personal care, meals, and daily living tasks as needed

Ensuring safety and wellbeing at all times

Respecting family-led routines and professional input



Essential:



Good standard of spoken and written English (GCSE/equivalent or experience) Experience or interest in complex language and communication needs, ASD and sensory/motor differences Calm, consistent, respectful approach Willingness to learn strategies such as TEACCH or ABA Own car and UK driving licence Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply) Two references Right to work in the UK


Desirable:



Familiarity with TEACCH, low-arousal approaches, or ABA (Applied Behaviour Analysis) informed strategies Experience supporting Childhood Apraxia of Speech or other language impairment Background in SEN education, social care, or speech and language Suitable for students or graduates in relevant fields such as Clinical Psychology or Speech and Language Therapy
