Job Description

This post has been placed by Peterborough Council for Voluntary Service on behalf of a client. The client will be the employer but will use PCVS as a third party for the purposes of applications.

We are seeking two experienced, compassionate Personal Healthcare Assistants to support an 85-year-old gentleman living at home with his family and pets. The client is registered severely sight impaired and is living with a neurological condition that affects his speech (non-verbal), swallowing (PEG-fed), and mobility (bedbound).

Despite these challenges, he has excellent hearing and a warm sense of humour. This role is essential in supporting the family to deliver high-quality care at home, avoiding hospitalization and promoting the client's dignity, comfort, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities



The Personal Healthcare Assistants will work closely with the family and healthcare professionals to provide sensitive, timely, and skilled care.

Duties include:



? Personal care including washing, dressing, and hygiene

? PEG feeding, fluid/nutritional monitoring, and medication administration

? Respiratory support using cough assist and suction machine

? Safe hoisting and manual handling

? Positioning and physiotherapy (under guidance)

? Ensuring a clean, safe, and supportive home environment

? Domestic support (laundry, cleaning related to the client's care)

? Supporting the client's social and emotional well-being

? Accurate daily reporting and communication with family

? Participating in paid induction and ongoing training

? Ensuring good communication and team consistency

? Confidential handling of all personal and family-related matters

Candidate Requirements



Essentia

l:

? Health and Social Care Level 2 Diploma (or NVQ equivalent) and a Care Certificate

? At least 2 years' experience in home-based complex care

? Calm, reliable, observant, and able to respond appropriately in an emergency

? Full clean UK driving license

? Enhanced DBS (will be arranged post-offer)

? Two references, including most recent employer

? Proficiency in English and Right to Work in the UK

Desirable

:

? Prior experience working in palliative care and familiarity with physiotherapy/respiratory equipment

? Experience in using Peg feeding systems

Working Pattern



? Up to 35 hours per week to be shared between two assistants

? Flexibility including occasional evenings and weekends

? Cover expected for holiday/sickness with advance notice

? Working hours to be discussed at interview
