We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Pharmacy Assistant to join our dedicated Pharmacy team, providing high-quality medicines management and distribution services that directly support patient care across the Trust.
As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will work mainly in our pharmacy stores, supporting the safe, effective, and timely supply of medicines and pharmaceutical products to wards, clinics, and departments. You will be part of a friendly and supportive team, where you will help maintain stock, process deliveries, use modern automation systems, and contribute to patient safety through careful handling and preparation of medicines.
About the role:
Under the supervision of the Pharmacy General Services Manager and Senior Pharmacy Technicians, your role will include:
Selecting and assembling medicines and pharmaceutical products for delivery using both manual processes and robotic systems
Receiving, unloading, and checking incoming deliveries, ensuring correct storage conditions and documentation
Managing and topping up stock levels on wards and in the pharmacy stores to maintain quality and availability
Pre-packing, over-labelling, and assembling medicines ready for supply
Participating in the safe disposal of expired stock and recycling of medicines as per procedures
Responding to routine telephone and face-to-face queries and escalating where necessary
Using the pharmacy computer system to generate picking lists, labels and reports
Supporting statutory stock checks and audits to ensure compliance and accuracy
You will work collaboratively with pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, ward staff, and other teams to ensure a safe and efficient service that meets the needs of patients and the organisation.
What we're looking for:
A motivated and organised team player with good communication skills
Attention to detail and commitment to working safely and accurately
Ability to work under direction and follow standard operating procedures
Willingness to learn and adapt to using automated pharmacy systems
Flexibility to work across a 7-day rota, as required
Previous experience in a hospital, retail pharmacy, or stores environment would be an advantage but is not essential. Full training will be provided, and you will be supported to complete the
NVQ & BTEC Level 2 in Pharmacy Services
if you don't already hold this qualification.
