Job Overview


We are looking for a dedicated and approachable Pharmacy Counter Assistant to join our NHS pharmacy team.

As the first point of contact for patients and the public, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality, person-centred care. You will support the pharmacy team by assisting with over-the-counter medicines, providing excellent customer service, and helping to ensure the safe, smooth running of the pharmacy in line with NHS and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Welcome patients and customers in a polite, professional, and compassionate manner. Assist with the sale of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines and healthcare products under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Offer informed advice on common minor ailments and NHS pharmacy services where appropriate. Accurately handle cash and card payments using the pharmacy's till system. Support the dispensary team with tasks such as labelling, assembling, and bagging prescriptions (where trained and permitted). Maintain a clean, well-organised counter and retail area, ensuring all products are stocked, rotated, and within date. Adhere to NHS policies, data protection, and confidentiality protocols at all times. Observe and follow health and safety, infection control, and safeguarding procedures. Work collaboratively with pharmacy staff to provide timely and efficient service during busy periods.
Qualifications & Skills:

Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service role is desirable but not essential. NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent (or willingness to work towards it) is preferred. Basic knowledge of OTC medicines and pharmacy services (training will be provided). Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-focused attitude. Ability to follow instructions carefully and work within defined procedures. Reliable, flexible, and able to remain calm under pressure. Good numeracy skills and attention to detail.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 16 - 20 per week
