Job Description

Opportunity for a part-time Pharmacy Dispenser to join our team at Abbey Field Pharmacy in Colchester. The role is for up to 16-20 hrs/week with scope for additional hours to cover staff absences and holidays.

Some pharmacy experience is highly advantageous, further training will be provided.



The role mainly involves week-day shifts within the pharmacy opening hours of 8.30am-6.00pm weekdays & 9am-1pm Saturdays (2 out of 4 Saturdays on a flexible rota). No late nights!

The pharmacy operates with the latest automation technology so strong IT literacy is key as well as a caring & can-do attitude.

The pharmacy assistant will work under the direct supervision of the pharmacist and will carry out day-to-day activities connected with the preparation and supply of medicines and will provide advice to patients on the use of medicines as well as on general health and lifestyle matters.

Primary responsibilities



To work as part of a team supporting the pharmacy manager in providing excellent customer service & patient care to help grow the pharmacy business. To select, label and dispense correct items in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure safe supply to patients; To dispense controlled drugs in accordance with standard operating procedures to ensure legal compliance; To ensure at the point of sale, the safe and correct supply of dispensed items to patients; To support pharmacy colleagues and mentor others through the timely completion of training courses; To work as part of a team and actively demonstrate a willingness to support and achieve the overall business objectives.

Person specification



Pharmacy experience or qualifications required e.g. Medicines Counter Assistant course and/or NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or NPA Accredited Dispensing Assistant Course (or equivalent)/ Further training will be provided if necessary. Methodical and accurate approach to practical tasks; Commitment to continuing professional development and training; Trustworthy and understanding of confidentiality issues; High level of concentration; Strong communication and excellent customer service skills; Professional, tactful and friendly attitude; Ability to work effectively to deadlines Reliable Excellent team working skills with a positive "can-do" attitude IT literate Must be fluent in written & spoken English. Ability to pass a DBS criminal record check.
