To provide safe, efficient, and friendly dispensing services within the pharmacy, supporting the pharmacists in delivering high-quality patient care. The NVQ Level 2 Pharmacy Dispenser will assist in the preparation and supply of medicines, maintain accurate records, and contribute to the smooth day?to?day running of the dispensary.
Key ResponsibilitiesDispensing & Supply of Medicines
Accurately dispense NHS and private prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
Select, label, assemble, and package medications in accordance with legal and professional standards.
Ensure safe and effective handling of controlled drugs following SOPs.
Customer Service & Patient Support
Provide helpful and knowledgeable counter service to patients and customers.
Respond to queries regarding prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, and minor ailments.
Signpost patients to the pharmacist or appropriate healthcare services when required.
Promote pharmacy services such as Pharmacy First, Contraception, New Medicines Service, BP checks, vaccinations, and health campaigns.
Dispensary Operations
Maintain dispensary workflow, ensuring prescriptions are processed efficiently and safely.
Use Analyst PMR system accurately for dispensing, stock management, and patient records.
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Support the safe and effective management of the dispensing robot.
Stock Control
Assist with stock ordering, checking deliveries, and ensuring correct storage of medicines.
Rotate stock, manage expiry dates, and minimise waste.
Report stock shortages or discrepancies promptly.
Compliance & Governance
Maintain confidentiality and comply with GDPR and pharmacy professional standards.
Support pharmacy audits, clinical governance, and service record-keeping.
Participate in mandatory training and maintain competence relevant to the NVQ Level 2 role.
Person SpecificationEssential
NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (or equivalent).
Experience working in a community pharmacy environment.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Desirable
Experience with Analyst PMR system.
Interest in career progression (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or Pharmacy Technician training).
Knowledge of NHS pharmacy services and reimbursement processes.
