OVERVIEW

A Pharmacy Dispenser plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of the pharmacy dispensing processes and many of our other activities, providing essential healthcare services to our community.

Responsibilities include:

ensuring the accurate and safe dispensing of medicines; ensuring records accurate and contemporaneous; fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for both staff and customers; working collaboratively with others within the team, keeping the patient central to all that we do. Serve as a workplace champion in one of the areas detailed below, or others as identified by the management team, helping to ensure excellence, innovation and consistency across all aspects of our operations. Be actively involved in the promotion and provision, as appropriate, of both NHS and private services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



1. Medication Dispensing



- Working to procedures to prepare and dispense medicines against orders, accurately and efficiently, under the supervision of a pharmacist, ensuring compliance with the latest legal and professional standards.

- Package and store medications consistently and thoroughly according to our procedures to ensure quality of medication and information given is maintained and to facilitate a professional and efficient hand out process on collection

- Follow all processes consistently and accurately concerning items of medication that are not in stock at the pharmacy

- Hand out medication to patients and their representatives consistently and in line with our procedures, for all packages handed out, to:

ensure relevant information is provided to enable patients to take their medication optimally patients are made aware of all relevant services that may be beneficial to them and how to access them. preserve the accuracy of patient records deliver excellent clinical governance practice electronic prescriptions are submitted for payment to the NHSBSA in a timely manner
- Update own knowledge of pharmaceutical products and services continuously to better assist patients with enquiries and ensure their diverse needs are met.

2. Customer Service



- Greet and assist customers warmly, ensuring everyone feels welcome and valued.

- Provide guidance on over-the-counter medications, healthcare products, services and general health and wellness topics with empathy and understanding

- Handle sales including using the till and other relevant payment methods

- Refer/escalate/signpost where appropriate.

- Address prescription queries and administrative tasks with efficiency and a customer-centric approach.

- Ensure patient expectations are managed appropriately by providing consistent messaging in line with the Responsible Pharmacist and/or Managers' directions

3. Team Work



- Collaborate closely and communicate respectfully and effectively with all team members to:

ensure a harmonious and supportive work environment. the sharing of knowledge and ideas, enhancing team performance foster an inclusive environment. working processes are consistently and reliably upheld, ensuring patient and staff safety and efficiency of all processes all regular jobs that are required to ensure that safe and effective maintenance of the business and it's services are completed at the appropriate interval (i.e. date checking, cleaning, opening and close down processes, cashing up etc.)
- Support the training and development of new team members, demonstrating patience and encouragement as they integrate into the team.

- Keep up to date with any news, announcements, changes within the pharmacy, ensuring the reading of any team meeting minutes and action as appropriate. Contribute any feedback, concerns or ideas for improvements and highlight any good practice.

4. Workplace Champion Role



Act as a workplace champion in one or more of the following areas or others as deemed appropriate by the Management Team, to ensure that consistency of standards is maintained throughout all areas of the pharmacy's activities, any issues are escalated early and any changes or improvements are communicated and embedded quickly and thoroughly.

- Healthy Living Pharmacy Champion: Advocate for and promote initiatives that enhance community health and well-being inline with the Service Specification for the Healthy Living Pharmacy essential service and others as appropriate.

- Services Champion: Support the Pharmacy Service Lead to: identify opportunities for improvements to existing commissioned and non-commissioned services with a patient centric approach, ensuring that services are promoted, communicated, provided, recorded consistently by all team members as appropriate to their role(s).

- Health & Safety Champion: Support the H&S Lead to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, ensuring that everyone is aware of their H&S responsibilities and promoting a safe and secure workplace for all staff, visitors and customers.

- Customer Service Champion: Create and lead initiatives to enhance the customer experience. Lead by example when interacting with customers and support team members to respectfully maintain professional boundaries during difficult customer interactions, escalating any concerns or complaints as appropriate.

- Training Champion: Support the Training Lead and management team in identifying, communicating and facilitating training and development of team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

- Controlled Drugs Champion: Support the pharmacists and other team members in ensuring adherence to regulations governing the handling, monitoring and storage of controlled drugs, promoting accurate and contemporaneous record making and supporting with audits/checks as appropriate and escalating any issues identified.

- Deliveries Champion: Promote the efficient handling and processing of prescription items for delivery to patients, helping to ensure efficient workflows and optimal patient care. Provide staff training and feedback, where appropriate, to ensure consistency of all relevant processes. Escalate any issues to a shift lead/manager as appropriate.

- Stock Control Champion (Dispensary or Retail): Work alongside the other stock control champion to support the Stock Control Lead in monitoring and managing pharmacy inventory effectively, to minimise wastage and ensure optimal stock levels to meet customer demand. Support team members to ensure stock is rotated and stored appropriately to safeguard safe and efficient dispensing and sales. Escalate issues appropriately.

- Vulnerable Patients Champion: Assist the Care Homes and Compliance Aid Lead, the Safeguarding Lead and the Services Lead to provide specialised support and expertise in identifying and safeguarding our most vulnerable and high risk patients, ensuring the highest standards of care and compliance are maintained and any potential issues identified are escalated appropriately. Support the team to identify and provide appropriate care to these patients.

Patient groups include and any others identified as vulnerable:

those living in care homes and sheltered accommodation; those receiving their medication in compliance aids and/or with home medication reminder sheets; those receiving their medication in weekly or fortnightly quantities; assisted patients; those with known or potential safeguarding concerns; those with known or potential learning or other disabilities or significant mental health problems; those receiving medication for substance misuse.

5. Provision of NHS and Private Services:



- Undertake appropriate elements of NHS or private services inline with service specifications and/or procedures under the supervision of the responsible pharmacist. This may include some or all of the following:

information gathering in person or via phone or video link; examinations; investigations; provision of appropriate healthcare advice; escalation and/or onwards signposting as appropriate; appropriate record keeping.
- Complete and maintain all appropriate training required including keeping up to date with any changes or developments to the service and escalate any training needs identified to the appropriate line manager and/or Services Lead/Champion.

- Uphold confidentiality and high standards of professionalism at all times.

- Collaborate with the pharmacy team to ensure consistent and efficient promotion, signposting into and delivery of all current NHS and private services offered at the pharmacy, contributing to the overall health and well-being of our community and the sustainability of our pharmacy.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:



- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent qualification.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication dispensing and following procedures.

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a genuine passion for helping others.

- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, fostering inclusivity and mutual respect.

- Ability to give and receive feedback appropriately and respectfully and to reflect on own practice with the purpose of improving practice.

- Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and basic computer skills.

- Knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Medicines Act, Data Protection Act, Health and Safety regulations and others as deemed required by the Training Lead and/or Management Team

- Commitment to ongoing personal and professional development and embracing diversity in healthcare delivery

- Completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, ensuring eligibility to work in a regulated healthcare environment and maintain patient safety and trust.

WORKING CONDITIONS:



- Shift work,

including evenings and weekends

, to accommodate pharmacy opening hours and team skill mix to ensure the safe and effective running of the pharmacy and its services.

- The role involves standing for extended periods, occasional lifting of heavy objects, such as medication boxes, and dealing directly and in person with members of the public (including those with communication differences/challenges and those with mental and/or physical health conditions) with support available to ensure your well-being and safety.

- Uniform will be provided

Pay: From 12.21 per hour
