The Role





The Pharmacy Support Role will, in association with the Pharmacy Technician, Head of Medicines Management, Medicines Management Pharmacist and Local Leadership Team, undertake medicines management related activities across the North East area, primarily based at Vocare House



Working under current policies and standard operating procedures they will work to safe, appropriate, and legal practise at all times.



The postholder will support the organisation's work in achieving the highest standards of safe and effective medicines storage and administration.



Key Responsibilities





The safe and secure storage of all medicines within the North East area, ensuring that all entry doors to the Medicines Room / Medicines Storage Room are always locked and to manage appropriate access to authorised persons only.
The safe storage of all the out of hours drug boxes & palliative care boxes in use and help monitor sign out / return by clinicians to always ensure that each drug box can be accountable for.
Checking drug boxes (non-injectable and injectable medicines) in line with the approved formulary, replenishing items noted on drug usage sheet and checking expiry dates as required.
Ensuring all base stock is date-checked and rotated in date order to ensure efficient use of stock and to reduce wastage. Removal of any stock out-of-date.
Preparing all UTC stock orders for delivery each week keeping accurate records of stock movement
Checking diagnostic boxes daily in line with the approved list of diagnostic equipment and medical sundries, ensuring all equipment is in working order and that each box in use contains the relevant equipment and can be accounted for
Ensuring that all equipment in the diagnostic boxes is maintained and cleaned in line with the recommendations of the Infection Control Policy
Ensuring that all medicines are appropriately stored and those requiring storage in a refrigerator are stored at the correct temperature and the refrigerator temperature is monitored and recorded daily.
Working in accordance with national guidelines for providing medicines out of hours, policies and standard operating procedures at all times and contribute towards the achievement of quality standards by participating in regular quality monitoring

Deputising For The Pharmacy Technician:



Ordering stock as and when required from approved wholesalers in line with purchasing procedure, ensuring all stock is date-checked and rotated to ensure efficient usage. To keep accurate records of stock control measures in place and update records appropriately to reflect the stock checks undertaken.
To record and report immediately to the Head of Medicines Management, all unaccounted stock items in line with policy.
Safe and secure storage of all FP10 and FP10 REC prescription pads, ensuring all prescription pads allocated can be accounted for. To keep accurate records for all prescriptions cancelled/not used.
Responding appropriately to any drug hazard / recall notices / adverse event reports under the direction of the Head of Medicines Management.
The investigation of any medicines management related incidents.
Ensuring that the Consultation Rooms are "fit for clinical purpose" and emergency drugs / equipment, diagnostic equipment are available and weekly checks recorded

The postholder will be required to undertake a General Pharmaceutical Council approved NVQ2 Pharmacy Stock Management course, under direction of the Pharmacy Technician. They will be required to achieve sign off against a list of competencies deemed appropriate for the role.
