Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to take on a varied and fast-paced operational role. The candidate will require skills in problem-solving and decision-making, along with excellent time and personnel management skills in order to ensure our ward-based clinical services technicians provide a quality service for our patients.



Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.



The postholder will be responsible for overseeing all technical pharmacy activities on inpatient wards, leading teams involved in medicines management, stock control, and the use of automated Omnicell dispensing systems.



Key responsibilities include:



Managing and supporting the Medicines Management and Omnicell teams to deliver efficient, safe, and high-performing ward pharmacy services.



Ensuring full compliance with national and Trust standards (including MHRA, GPhC, CQC, RPS, and GDP requirements).



Leading on the development, implementation and monitoring of service KPIs and audits.



Working with the Education & Training team to maintain competency frameworks and support staff development.



Driving service redesign projects using lean improvement methodologies.



Managing stock returns processes, coordinating ward-based audits, and producing operational reports.



Participating in operational management forums and deputising for senior colleagues where required.

Provide operational leadership for ward-based pharmacy services across UHCW NHS Trust, ensuring delivery of safe and effective medicines management.



Line manage the Medicines Management Technician team and the Omnicell Team, supporting recruitment, training, supervision and retention.



Ensure robust scheduling and deployment of technical staff to meet daily operational and clinical demands across inpatient areas.



Monitor service performance and compliance with key governance standards (MHRA, GPhC, CQC, GDP), identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.



Lead audits and produce regular reports on stock use, waste, Omnicell performance, and technician-led activities.



Collaborate with the Dispensary & Stores Operational Manager and other senior colleagues to reduce variation and improve service efficiency.



Support the management of incidents, complaints and change control processes in accordance with Trust policies.



Contribute to the design and delivery of education, competency assessments, and workforce development activities.



Maintain Accredited Accuracy Checking Technician (AACT) status and support checking and clinical tasks as required.



Participate in weekend, late and bank holiday rotas and deputise for senior managers as needed
