Phd Research Training Co Ordinator

Manchester, United Kingdom

Job Description

Manchester Metropolitan University seeks a Research Training Co-ordinator to be based in the Postgraduate Arts and Humanities Centre in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. The expectation is that the successful candidate would ideally have secured a PhD (perhaps recently) and would be highly motivated to support and inspire the developments of those PGRs with the same aim. The faculty is a unique environment where Humanities, Languages and Social Science sits alongside the Manchester School of Art, the School of Digital Arts and the Manchester Fashion Institute.

As a modern university, we have a tradition of engaged research, often delivered through collaboration and reflected in an openness to partnerships inside and outside academia. Alongside traditional disciplinary-based approaches, PAHC highlights applied, practice-based, as well as inter- and multidisciplinary methodologies, encouraging research degree projects with elements of social, cultural and public engagement.

PAHC provides research and skills development training through our Researcher Development Programme (RDP) workshops and events, many of which are student-generated and led. PAHC is a vigorous research community of around 350 postgraduate and early-career researchers in the Arts and Humanities with an agenda to do and act in the world in ways that are relevant to society and its cultures through ethically informed research. The RDP has become a focus for the Faculty\'s post-graduate research community and aims to provide a foundation for the understanding of the wider culture and society.

PAHC is now seeking to appoint a new 0.5 Research Training Coordinator for 1 year fixed term. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering and developing our Research Training Programme across the Faculty\'s full disciplinary spectrum. A good understanding of interdisciplinary research methods, practice-based research, relevant HE policy, University strategy and Faculty ambitions regarding PGR, as well as internationalisation, is essential.

Research Training Co-ordinator, PAHC: role profile

  • Assume overall responsibility for the delivery of the PAHC Research Training Programme (RTP), with a focus on innovative approaches to partnership-building as well as collaborative, practice-based and interdisciplinary PGR research, in compliance with HEFCE, QAA and Research Council guidelines
  • Ensure that the training needs of the Leverhulme Unit for the Design of Cities of the Future scholars are fully incorporated into the Research Training Programme
  • Ensure that online elements of the hybrid Research Training Programme are delivered effectively while incorporating elements of digital innovation as and where appropriate

  • Build on existing good practice in the areas of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, as well as on internationalisation and distance learning with the aim of improving provision and ensuring excellence in the PGR student experience
  • Manage ad hoc initiatives and projects as may be identified by the Head of PAHC to support the student experience
  • Contribute to relevant data capture and analysis, and to strategic planning where appropriate
  • Administer student funding applications to the PAHC Student Fund
  • Other appropriate activities as agreed with the Head of PAHC
If you would like to be considered for the role, please submit your CV, along with a 500 word statement of suitability/interest.
