Firs House Surgery, Histon and 42 Telegraph Street, Cottenham

Salary:

23868 - 25,000 (Pro Rata)

Hours:

Thursday and Friday8:30 - 17:30 (with 1 hour for lunch)

At least 1 years experience is required for this position

Job Summary



Working under the direct supervision of the Nurse and HCA teams and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the post-holder will be responsible for performing venepuncture and near patient testing to obtain blood samples from patients as directed by other members of the clinical team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities



1. Ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their consent to the collection of a blood sample

2. Collection of sample(s) of blood in accordance with training and procedures

3. Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers

4. Accurate, legible labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity

5. Checking patient identification against clinician request and confirming with patient whenever possible

6. Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with practice procedure

7. Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion.

8. Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff

9. Notifying the appropriate clinician of any significant patient issues

10. Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team

11. Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions

12. Assist in raising awareness of health and well-being, where appropriate

13. Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence

14. To gain the underpinning knowledge and practical skills to administer basic life support if necessary

15. Chaperone and assist patients where appropriate according to practice policy

16. Support the HCA and Nurse team for various tasks if and when required.

17. Support the nursing team, as required

18. Undertake administrative duties, as required of the position

19. Participate in practice learning and events etc.

20. Undertake induction training and further training (courses, in house, on line etc). Once competent take part in training new staff.

21. Attend Nursing and other meetings as requested

22. Recognise personal and professional boundaries and work within the Practice

23. Confirm to all protocols and procedures in the Practice.

24. To undertake any further training as identified by the Practice.

25. Ensure that safe working practices are followed in respect of COSHH and other Risk Assessment control measures.

26. Employees must comply with the provisions of 'The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974' and must take reasonable care for the health and safety of themselves and of other persons who may be affected by their acts of omissions whilst at work. Employees are also required to cooperate with their employer to enable them to perform or comply with any statutory provisions. 27. To understand, comply with and promote Practices safeguarding policy and procedures. It is the responsibility of all employees to make the working environment safe and secure for all.

28. To maintain the confidentiality about clients, staff and other Practice business. The work is of a confidential nature and information gained must not be communicated to other persons except in the recognised course of duty. The post holder must meet the requirements of the Data Protection Act at all times.

29. To maintain awareness of risk and to take personal responsibility for ensuring that the practice is not unnecessarily exposed to risk. To report any issues or concerns relating to risk and the effectiveness of the Practice's risk management arrangements.

30. Work within, promote and implement the practice confidentiality and information security policies and report to line manager, or other appropriate person, in the event of awareness of bad practice.

32. Where appropriate carry out tasks required as part of special projects.

33. Undertake any other additional duties appropriate to the post as requested by the partners, practice manager or deputy practice manager.

34. Must have a clean driving licence and access to a car.

35. DBS check will be required.
