We are seeking a skilled Phlebotomist / Treatment Room Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in phlebotomy and be adept at working in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Main Duties
Perform venipuncture to collect blood samples from patients.
Ensure adherence to aseptic techniques to prevent infection during blood collection.
Maintain patient comfort and provide clear instructions during procedures
Ensuring specimens are correctly labelled, documented, and prepared for laboratory transport.
Collaborate with medical and administrative staff to ensure efficient patient flow and address any concerns.
Participate in ongoing training and development to stay current with best practices.
Perform ECG accurately in accordance with practice protocols
Measuring and recording of blood pressures, pulse, height, weight and other basic observations accurately in the clinical record.
Undertake urinalysis and record results appropriately.
Managing simple wound care and dressing changes as per treatment plans.
Maintain infection prevention and control standards at all times.
Support clinicians and nurses during procedures when required.
Carry out general administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the treatment room and practice.
Criteria
Essential:
Successful completion of a formal phlebotomy training course
Demonstrated competence in venepuncture with supervised clinical experience
Access NI Clearance (required for all roles involving patient care)
Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Health & Social Care or equivalent
Basic Life Support certification or willingness to complete upon appointment.
Ability to measure and record blood pressure, pulse, height, weight and other basic observations accurately.
Knowledge of infection control and safe specimen handling.
Demonstrates flexibility in hours and working days, including the ability to adjust shifts to cover staff absence or changing practice requirements.
Desirable:
Previous experience in a GP surgery or healthcare setting.
Trained and competent in administration of injections (e.g B12)
Familiarity with EMIS Web or similar clinical systems.
Experience or training in performing ECG's
Experience in urinalysis and simple wound care
