Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide high-quality phlebotomy services as the primary responsibility, ensuring safe and accurate blood collection while delivering an excellent patient experience. Alongside this, the role supports the wider pharmacy team with customer service, counter sales, and general dispensary duties to ensure the smooth running of a busy community pharmacy, reporting into the Superintendent Pharmacist. Working hours are 9am-3pm Monday to Friday with some weekends required to work (day off in lieu), there is some flexibility with working hours (upwards and downwards) so if there are specific requirements please discuss with us

Key Responsibilities

Phlebotomy (Primary Role):

Perform venepuncture safely and effectively, following clinical and infection control guidelines. Correctly label, handle, and store blood samples to ensure accuracy and integrity. Prepare samples for laboratory dispatch with all required documentation. Reassure and support patients, providing a professional and caring experience. Maintain cleanliness and safety of the clinical area, including disposal of sharps and clinical waste. Record patient information accurately and confidentially. Report incidents, concerns, or abnormal findings to the supervising pharmacist or clinician. Provide a high quality consultation with patients, ensuring they have all NHS and private services available to them.
Pharmacy Assistant (Secondary Role):

Provide professional and friendly service at the pharmacy counter. Assist in the sale of over-the-counter (OTC) medicines, offering appropriate advice under pharmacist supervision. Support the preparation, assembly, and labelling of prescriptions as directed. Handle customer and patient queries, escalating where necessary. Support pharmacy services such as smoking cessation, health checks, or vaccinations, where trained. Assist with stock management, including ordering, receiving deliveries, rotation, and date-checking. Keep the pharmacy environment safe, clean, and well organised. Undertake administrative duties and support the wider pharmacy team as required.
Person Specification

Essential:

Phlebotomy training and competency in venepuncture. Strong patient care and communication skills. High attention to detail and ability to follow procedures. Team player with a flexible approach in a busy environment. Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism. Valid right to work in UK
Desirable:

Previous experience in community pharmacy or healthcare. Knowledge of OTC medicines and willingness to complete accredited training (e.g., Medicines Counter Assistant course). Experience with pharmacy IT systems or retail tills.

Pay: 12.21-13.00 per hour
