About Us
Richmond Surgery is the lead practice for the Fleet Primary Care Network. We currently have over 15200 registered patients and operate from a purpose built premises based in a quiet suburb of Fleet, Hampshire.
We are a GMS Practice with 4 full time GP Partners, a Managing Partner, Deputy Manager, Physician Associates, a nursing team of 5, 4 Care Coordinators, MSK practitioners and Mental Health Support workers. Our clinical system is EMIS Web, and we use ICE, and Docman. We are rated Good for CQC.
JOB SUMMARY
We are looking to recruit an experienced Phlebotomist with, or without Healthcare Assistant experience. This is a new position and an opportunity to join a practice that encourages all staff to grow and develop. Joining our nursing team, you will work alongside our existing team of 5 obtaining blood samples from patients and ensuring their safe delivery to the laboratory for testing in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols. You will also provide clinical HCA duties in line with your experience and ongoing training.
The ideal candidate should be friendly, approachable, have a good sense of humour, be flexible and a team person with a positive and supportive outlook. You should be organised and an excellent communicator and be looking for a position where you can progress and learn with our full support in training and mentoring with opportunities to develop your skills and grow within the practice.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The following areas of responsibility are an indication of the role, but could be subject to change as the impact of primary care network commissioning evolves:
Weekly venepuncture clinics together with HCA duties such as dressings; BP/height/weight; Health Checks; ECGs; initial diabetic checks; pathology specimens as required. This list is not exhaustive and is subject to experience and ongoing training.
Maintain accurate clinical records in conjunction with current legislation
Ensure read codes are used effectively
Ensure continuity of care, arrange follow-up consultations or reviews as necessary
Telephone calls with patients where required
Participate in the practice and PCN Extended Access clinics on a shared team rota basis
Duties will vary from time to time under the direction of the GP Partners and Nurse Manager dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels.

Clinical Admin Support
The Phlebotomist/HCA may also be required, to support the GP Partners with clinical administrative duties.

Security
The security of the practice is the responsibility of all personnel. Staff must ensure that they remain vigilant at all times and report any suspicious activity immediately to their line manager. Under no circumstances are staff to share the codes for the door locks with anyone and they are to ensure that restricted areas remain effectively secured.
PERSONAL/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The post-holder will participate in any training implemented by the practice as part of this employment, such training to include:
Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development together with all mandatory training as required by the practice.
Taking responsibility for own learning and performance, demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work
Induction training
On arrival at the practice, all personnel are to complete a practice induction programme.
PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT
Professional attire in accordance with position must be worn at all times when at work, together with identification in accordance with their role.
