We are seeking a PHP/WordPress Web Developer who will be responsible for both back-end and front-end development, working across our various websites. Must be UK based with occasional visits to our northern office in Stockton-on-tees expected. This position requires a combination of programming skills (namely PHP, HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript), understanding of web services/APIs and a good working knowledge of UX best practices. The candidate should have a strong understanding of industry trends and content management systems. Experience with responsive and adaptive design is required along with an understanding of the entire web development process, including design, development, testing and deployment.

Bower is looking for a seasoned WordPress Web Developer, you would be working as part of a team on a variety of projects across the Bower brands, from full website builds through to updates and amendments to existing websites. The ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of working with WordPress, creating Gutenberg Blocks, APIs and would ideally have at least 3 years of web development experience within a professional environment.
Personal Specification
Experience leading the planning and execution of website development projects
Architecting and developing custom WordPress solutions, including themes, plugins, and functionalities tailored to certain specifications
Implementing advanced performance optimisation techniques, including server-side optimizations, caching strategies, and content delivery networks (CDNs)
Ensuring robust security measures, including data encryption, user authentication, and protection against common web vulnerabilities
Collaborating closely with marketing and IT teams to define project requirements
Staying at the forefront of web development by researching and implementing emerging technologies and trends
Experience of worked in an Agile environments
Role and Skills Requirements
Advanced proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP
Extensive experience with WordPress CMS, including custom theme and plugin development
Expertise in responsive web design and mobile optimization
In-depth knowledge of web security best practices
Proven track record of successful project execution and leadership
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills
Experience with Web Service and API integrations
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
A bachelor's degree in computer science, web development, or a related field (preferred)
At least 3 years of relevant experience
