We have an exciting opportunity in North Wales as we are seeking to recruit a Physicians Associate, for the PHW microbiology service to the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB). In this role you will join the expanding clinical infection team delivering services to BCUHB and supporting the wider Public Health Wales network.
The post is intended tosupport delivery of infection services to BCUHB, but it isanticipated that adequate time will be protected to allow training and education.
Public Health Wales Microbiology laboratories are situated within Glan Clwyd Hospital, Wrexham Maelor and Ysbyty Gwynedd and is one of the largest Microbiology services within Wales, providing a wide range of diagnostic services to hospitals, clinics and general practitioners across North Wales. The laboratory offers a comprehensive Microbiology service covering Bacteriology. The Clinical Laboratories are ISO 15189 accredited and approved by a number of bodies for training purposes. Rapid, accurate and advanced molecular laboratory techniques are in use to provide a better diagnosis and patient care management.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and /or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The provision of service expectations will be tailored to the skills, experience and knowledge of the individual candidate, and will be supported within a training environment.
Undertake duties relating to the provision of the Clinical Microbiology/ Infectious Diseases services across the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board area.
These duties will include:
To formulate a detailed differential diagnosis having taken a history and completed a physical examination of patients/service users
To ensure continuity of a high standard of care, assessing the health needs of the patients and taking appropriate actions.
Provide clinical advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis through to treatment.
Work with patients and service users to agree a comprehensive management plan considering individual characteristics, background and circumstances
Accept responsibility for own caseload, developing accurate specialised care plans, which reflects the assessments undertaken and incorporates the issues and recommendations made, ensuring clear documentation in the patient's records.
To be actively involved in all aspect of patient care, liaising with other members of the clinical team as appropriate, as determined by the clinical setting in which they are placed.
Work with the wider Multi-Disciplinary Team in the assessment of a patient for an admission or discharge.
