Pay Rate: \xc2\xa326 per hour (assignment rate)

Main Duties:
  • To work as an autonomous practitioner, to be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own work including the management of patients in your care. To ensure a high standard of clinical care for the patients under your management, and support more junior staff to do likewise.
  • To gain consent and undertake physiotherapy assessment, clinically diagnose, to formulate and implement treatment plans using specialist knowledge and experience. This will include the treatment of complex patients in a manner that respects people\xe2\x80\x99s choice, privacy, dignity and individuality.
  • To interpret and analyse clinical facts using advanced clinical reasoning and problem solving skills to form accurate diagnoses and prognoses in a wide range of complex conditions, to recommend the best course of intervention and develop comprehensive care management and discharge plans.
  • To interpret non-clinical facts based on a complex risk assessment incorporating the constant changes encountered within each individual\xe2\x80\x99s home circumstances.
  • To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and modify accordingly.
  • To maintain accurate, comprehensive and up to date documentation, in line with legal and departmental requirements, and communicate assessment and treatment results to the appropriate disciplines in the form of reports and letters.
  • To monitor the appropriateness of referrals, obtaining information relevant to patient care and ensuring appropriate discharge/ongoing care.
  • To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients, and to organise this efficiently and effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.
  • To manage waiting lists/workload and prioritise referrals/workload as appropriate.
  • To train, supervise and performance manage more junior staff and Assistants, Clinical Support Workers and Student Physiotherapists and carers on the management of all patients including clinically demanding patients and challenging home environments.
  • To work on any of the various sites, i.e. patients own homes, nursing homes, residential homes, intermediate care settings, day centres, out-patient clinics, community mental health day care and any other community setting appropriate to the patients\xe2\x80\x99 health care needs, both indoors and outdoors, within EPUT service agreed with the line manager and appropriate to patient needs and service requirements.
  • To ensure a high standard of patient care is provided, implementing and reviewing clinical standards relevant to the work undertaken.
  • To provide specialist advice within the multi-disciplinary team and actively liaise with the MDT.
  • To ensure effective internal and external two way communication with patients, carers and all other health, educational and social care professionals regarding all aspects of patient care, providing advice and support as appropriate to meet the patient or service needs. This also includes working with other colleagues in a professional manner in order to provide the optimum service possible.
  • To provide hands on treatment. To demonstrate highly developed dexterity, hand eye co-ordination, precision and palpation skills for assessment and manual treatment of patients. To utilise a wide range of treatment skills and options to formulate and carry out a programme of care adapted to non-clinical settings.
  • To provide spontaneous or planned advice, teaching and instruction, to patients, relatives, carers and other professionals, including trainees, in response to complex, sensitive or contentious situations. This requires empathy, motivation, persuasion and reassurance. Expert communication skills are required as there are barriers to understanding, resistance and compliance, e.g. where English is the second language, patients are dysphasic, blind, deaf or have mental health issues preventing good co-operation and capacity to respond.
  • To risk assess, where necessary, the visits to a wide variety of patients\xe2\x80\x99 home circumstances and to adapt accordingly, e.g. dirty, crowded houses, pets present, cigarette smoke.
  • To potentially represent the Trust externally, locally regarding Physiotherapy services provided to patients with a wide variety of conditions, e.g. on specific working parties, CMHT, intermediate care, CCG liaison.
Requirements of the Physiotherapist:
  • Qualified physiotherapist, i.e., Degree or equivalent within Physiotherapy.
  • Recent UK experience within mental health physiotherapy.
  • Registered with the HCPC as a physiotherapist to work in the UK.
  • NHS experience would be advantageous but not essential.
