Franklin Hodge Industries Limited are leaders in the design, manufacture and installation of grain silos, cooling towers and liquid storage systems for the storage of fire sprinkler, high quality industrial process and drinking (potable) water. From our office in Hereford and manufacturing facility in Birmingham, we supply our products across all industries, locally, nationally, and globally.
We are looking for an individual who is experienced in managing pipework installations, to lead the planning, co-ordination and delivery of pipework installations for both fire protection systems and cooling towers.
The role includes supervising on-site teams, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing resources, and delivering high-quality systems to strict safety and performance standards.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Oversee and manage pipework installation projects for fire protection systems and cooling towers.
Ensure installations meet relevant industry standards, including
LPCB, BS EN 12845, NFPA
, and
HSE ACOP L8
(for Legionella control).
Read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and specifications for both fire and HVAC water systems.
Manage fabrication, delivery, and installation of pipework (carbon steel, stainless steel, HDPE, etc.).
Supervise and coordinate teams of pipefitters, welders, and subcontractors across sites.
Conduct or oversee pressure and flow testing, chlorination/flushing, and commissioning.
Liaise with internal design teams, consultants, and clients to coordinate works and resolve technical issues.
Maintain a strong focus on
health and safety
, ensuring RAMS, toolbox talks, and permit-to-work systems are effectively implemented.
Monitor costs, variations, and productivity to ensure projects are delivered on time and on budget.
Ensure all documentation (QA, commissioning records, handover files) is completed accurately.
Key skills & Experience
Minimum 5 years' experience managing pipework installations in fire protection or HVAC water systems.
Strong technical knowledge of sprinkler systems, sectional tanks, and cooling tower pipework.
Ability to manage both new builds and retrofit/maintenance projects.
Experience with pipe jointing methods: grooved, flanged, welded, threaded, or fusion-welded (for plastic).
Familiar with industry best practices for
Legionella control
, chlorination, and pipe cleanliness.
Competent in managing direct labour, subcontractors, and materials procurement.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Qualifications
NVQ Level 3 or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Pipefitting.
Certifications in fire systems (FIA or BAFSA) and Legionella awareness (for cooling towers) desirable.
SMSTS or SSSTS (preferred).
CSCS or equivalent H&S qualification.
Full UK driving licence.
