We are looking for an enthusiastic IT Systems Placement Student to join our team specializing in Systems/Information Technology for our Engine Business Segment in Darlington, UK. You'll be based at our Darlington Engine Plant (DEP) - a vibrant, large-scale manufacturing campus that's home to over 1,500 employees, including both office professionals and skilled operators supporting our advanced engine assembly lines. During your placement with us, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry and power your potential! This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer 2026 This position will be 100% onsite Monday to Friday, so we will only consider candidates who will be able to travel or relocate to the location.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Leading small-scale IT projects and initiatives
- from gathering requirements to implementation - helping improve departmental efficiency and user experience.
Supporting and deploying IT equipment
including deploying hardware and troubleshooting issues across office, warehouse, and shop floor environments.
Driving process improvements
to streamline business processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
Gaining hands-on experience with enterprise systems
, like Oracle ERP and Cummins' Manufacturing Execution System (MES), supporting real-time operations.
Developing business intelligence solutions
using Microsoft PowerApps, Power BI, and other industry-standard software tools.
Enhancing operational efficiency
through process flow mapping, data collection and analysis, testing, and problem-solving.
Providing production support
as needed, contributing to the resolution of technical issues and ensuring business continuity.
QUALIFICATIONS
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Studying towards a degree within Information Technology, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence (AI) or related subjects
Good understanding of Digital Technologies, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, Software or Programming
Professional and positive attitude, ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Competent in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Copilot)
Effective communication skills.
