We're looking for a hands?on Plant Engineer to join our small (currently 2?person) maintenance team. This is a factory/plant?floor role -- very little office work, minimal electrical work (outsourced), and plenty of opportunity to get your hands dirty and solve real mechanical challenges.
Duties
Keep our plant equipment and systems running reliably and efficiently
Help install, commission and maintain new process plant, vessels, pumps, gearboxes and pipework
Fabricate steel supports, walkways and pipework modifications as needed
Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems (pumps, valves, gearboxes, etc.)
Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance in a light/medium engineering environment
Carry out general mechanical and maintenance tasks around the site (e.g. repairs, fitting, welding)
Work safely at height, in confined spaces, and under industrial conditions
Essential Requirements
Strong mechanical / plant maintenance experience in a process or industrial environment
Proven ability to fault?find, maintain and repair pumps, gearboxes, valves and rotating machinery
Fabrication / welding ability (steelwork, pipework, structural support)
Experience working on steel vessels, piping systems, supports and fittings
Good understanding of mechanical systems & pneumatics
Some experience with steam, compressed air, boilers or related utility systems
Capable of assisting with installation and commissioning of new plant
Practical, resourceful, and able to work independently and in our team
Comfort with physically demanding work -- climbing, lifting, working under / around heavy equipment
A strong awareness of health & safety practices in industrial settings
Desirable Skills & Experience
Experience in a chemical, lubricant or process manufacturing plant
Coded or certified welding (e.g. MIG, TIG, stick)
Basic machining skills (thread cutting, turning, milling, boring)
Pipefitting experience
Forklift licence
Experience with dust/fume extraction, filtration or ventilation systems
Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems, planning and scheduling
Some experience with boiler maintenance or steam systems
About You
You're the kind of person who enjoys hands-on engineering rather than sitting behind a desk. You thrive on solving mechanical problems, taking something that has failed and making it work again. You'll tackle a broad range of tasks -- from welding a new bracket to repairing a damaged pump to modifying pipe supports on the fly.
You're practical, self-reliant and resourceful, comfortable working in industrial environments with heat, noise, dust, and tight spaces. Safety is second nature to you. You don't mind getting dirty -- you see the value in doing a job properly from end to end.
You'll come from a maintenance or fabrication background, and you'll love being part of a tight-knit team, where your work is clearly visible in the day-to-day running of the plant.
Salary negotiable, dependent on experience.
