The Plant Hire Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day management of the company's owned plant inventory, ensuring effective tracking, servicing, compliance, and availability of all equipment and tools. This role plays a crucial part in supporting operational teams by ensuring that plant assets are maintained to a high standard, compliant with all legal requirements, and readily available to meet project demands.
Roles and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
1. Manage Owned Plant Inventory
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all owned plant including tools, barriers, MEWPs, and other equipment.
Ensure all plant is correctly asset tagged, tracked, and easily identifiable at all times.
2. Booking In and Out of Plant
Supervise the booking in and out process for all plant and equipment.
Ensure that all relevant hire documentation, including digital logs and paperwork, is completed accurately and promptly.
3. Hire Tracking and Overdue Flagging
Monitor ongoing hire durations and proactively flag any overdue or missing returns.
Communicate regularly with site teams to confirm plant return schedules and resolve any discrepancies.
Produce a weekly summary of all plant locations utilizing GPS tracking where possible
4. Plant Servicing and Maintenance Scheduling
Schedule and manage planned maintenance, statutory inspections (e.g., LOLER), and servicing.
Liaise with internal or external service providers to minimise plant downtime and ensure compliance.
Ensure accurate records are maintained for all equipment
5. Damage Reporting and Follow-up
Inspect all returned plant for damage or signs of misuse.
Report and record damages, initiate repair processes, and follow up on incidents where necessary.
6. Clean Down and Preparation for Rehire
Oversee the cleaning, inspection, and readiness of plant returning from hire.
Ensure all equipment is prepared to meet required standards before being re-issued.
7. Organisation and Segregation of Assets
Maintain a safe, clean, and organised plant storage area.
Ensure clear segregation between returned, service-due, and ready-to-hire plant.
8. Compliance and Legal Awareness
Stay up to date with legislation and compliance standards relevant to plant and equipment.
Ensure that only compliant, certified, and legally approved plant is dispatched.
Enforce health and safety regulations across plant operations.
9. Communication and Liaison
Coordinate with internal teams to understand upcoming plant requirements and project timelines.
Provide regular updates on plant availability, service intervals, and booking schedules.
10. Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve plant hire processes, storage organisation, and maintenance scheduling.
Contribute to the development and implementation of best practices in plant management.
Essential Skills:
Proven experience in a plant hire, logistics, or asset management role.
Good working knowledge of plant equipment, tools, and relevant compliance standards (e.g., LOLER, PUWER).
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency with digital tracking systems and hire management software.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to lead and coordinate with other teams and contractors effectively.
Desired Skills:
Certification in Health & Safety, LOLER, or PUWER compliance (advantageous).
Full UK Driving Licence (travel to sites is required might be required).
Forklift or MEWP operator certification (desirable but not essential).
