Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and reliable Plant Operative to support our Construction Projects around the country. Based in Leicester, with regular travel to sites in London, South West and the North to deliver and collect small plant, from our various building projects . A full clean driving licence is essential.

The job involves operating and performing minor maintenance on various plant machinery, for example: pallet trucks, podiums, site boxes, construction tools, heaters / fans, ladders, distribution trollies, cutting enclosures with cutting bench,; as required to complete our projects on site.

Key responsibilities include performing safety checks, ensuring the equipment is clean and well-maintained, adhering to health and safety policies, and keeping work areas tidy. This role often requires teamwork, time management, and the ability to work independently to meet operational targets.

Core Duties

Operate mobile plant:

Drives and operates equipment, eg fork lift trucks for tasks such as loading and transporting materials.

Knowledge

of PUWER / LOLER regulations and where applicable can apply to check legal requirements of plant

Completes

all relevant documentation and records accurately

Operates

and monitors booking system

Site maintenance:

Keep work areas clean, tidy, and free of debris.

Machine maintenance:

Perform daily safety checks, cleaning and routine preventative maintenance to ensure machinery is in good working order.

Material handling:

Loads and unloads vehicles, manage stockpiles of materials, and moves products to and from site.

Safety and compliance:

Adheres strictly to company health and safety policies and all legal and operational procedures. Ensure PPE is worn at all times.

Essential skills, qualities and qualifications

Previous experience in a similar role or relevant industry is desirable but not essential. Full-clean UK driving licence essential Fork Lift Truck licence preferred NVQ level 2/3 in Plant maintenance or equivalent Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements, RAMS, COSHH & PPE Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Basic IT skills to complete reports and use company tablets for job recording Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing priorities. Problem solving abilities: able to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise with the machinery or during operations Dexterity: some roles may require good hand-eye coordination for minor repair tasks. Be prepared for a physically demanding role that involves manual labour and working in various weather conditions A proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop new skills. Ability to work flexible hours, including shifts if required, with a commitment to punctuality and reliability.
