to support the delivery of our
After School Clubs
and
Summer Activity Programmes
for children and young people aged 8 to 18 with special educational needs and /or disabilities
This is a dynamic, hands-on role where you'll support young people through engaging, meaningful activities, help organise sessions, and be an important point of contact for families and other professionals. The role also includes
minibus driving
, requiring a valid D1 category on your licence.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Activity Delivery and Support
Support the planning and delivery of inclusive play and leisure activities during afterschool clubs and school holiday sessions.
Work directly with children and young people to encourage participation and engagement in a safe, stimulating environment.
Use creative and adaptive approaches to meet each young person's individual social, emotional, physical, and communication needs.
Assist with preparing resources and checking equipment to ensure activities run smoothly and safely.
Maintain a caring, non-judgemental, and inclusive atmosphere for all participants.
Transport and Minibus Responsibilities
Drive the Kids minibus to transport young people and staff to and from sessions and activity venues.
Ensure the safety of passengers at all times, adhering to all road safety and safeguarding standards.
Conduct daily vehicle safety checks and promptly report any issues to the SEND Lead or Play & Leisure Coordinator.
Complete all relevant paperwork (e.g. minibus logs, checklists).
Family and External Liaison
Communicate effectively with families to confirm programme schedules, discuss individual needs, and ensure smooth coordination.
Answer parent/carer queries and support key-working practices to ensure young people's safety and well-being.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with external agencies, including voluntary sector, health, education, SSD, leisure and any other appropriate agencies.
Support the promotion of services through external outreach and communications.
Team Leadership and Support
Assist the Coordinator in inducting, training, and supervising sessional play workers and volunteers.
Organise staff paperwork and manage volunteer expenses.
Help plan and deliver staff team-building events and training sessions.
Provide day-to-day support and line management for play workers and volunteers when required.
Support the development of staff rotas and manage staff deployment at activities.
Administration and Compliance
Help with the preparation of reports, including safeguarding reports, accident reports, activity evaluations, and final programme reports.
Maintain accurate registers and collect data as required for monitoring and evaluation.
Write group allocations and individual risk assessments for young people.
Ensure all activity planning and delivery is in line with KIDS' policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, and equality and diversity.
Attend training as required and contribute to continuous improvement of the programme.

Essential
To work flexibly as a member of the Kids team
UK driving licence with
D1 entitlement
(for driving a minibus)
Ability to work as part of a team and independently
Compassionate, non-judgemental attitude and a commitment to inclusion
Confident communication skills, particularly in supporting young people with varied communication needs
Willingness to undertake additional training and ongoing professional development
Understanding of the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality
Desirable
Experience working with children and young people with disabilities and/or special educational needs
Knowledge of child development, behaviour support, or inclusive play practices
Familiarity with working in partnership with families and external professionals
