Broughton After School Club is a small, friendly organisation based in Edinburgh (EH7 4LD). Our goal is to provide a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment where children can explore, learn, and grow outside of school hours. We offer engaging, child-centred activities focused on outdoor learning, creative arts and crafts, sports, science, drama, storytelling, and more. We aim to nurture a love for learning, creativity, and nature in every child. By promoting holistic development and instilling values of teamwork, respect, and responsibility, we help children grow into confident, compassionate, and socially aware individuals.
Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic
Playworker
to join our team. In this rewarding role, you will help create a safe, fun, and engaging environment where children can play, learn, and develop important life skills.
Working Hours
Mondays, Tuesdays & Wednesdays:
2:30pm - 6:00pm
Thursdays:
1:00pm - 6:00pm
Fridays:
11:30am - 6:00pm
School Holidays:
We also run full-day holiday clubs, so shift patterns vary.
Key Responsibilities
Actively play with and supervise children, encouraging creativity, friendships, and cooperation.
Ensure children follow safety rules and club expectations.
Support positive behaviour and help children resolve conflicts.
Set up, run, and tidy away activities, encouraging children to try new things and build independence.
Observe and record children's development, planning activities in line with
GIRFEC
and
SHANARRI
.
Actively bring fresh ideas for activities and games to team meetings.
Supervise snack times, follow hygiene procedures, and manage safe food storage.
Support daily routines, including school pick-ups, handovers, and signing children in and out.
Communicate professionally with parents and report any concerns or incidents to the manager.
Attend training, staff meetings, and contribute to a positive, supportive team environment.
Keep play spaces clean, safe, and well organised, caring for equipment properly.
Qualifications & Skills
A childcare qualification such as
SVQ3
,
HNC/HND
, or similar.
Previous experience working with children in settings such as nurseries, schools, after-school clubs, or voluntary roles.
Good spoken and written English.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively.
Strong teamwork and leadership skills to guide and support children.
A genuine passion for helping children grow and reach their potential.
