Derrytrasna Playgroup is a welcoming and inclusive early years setting, dedicated to delivering high-quality preschool education for children aged 3 to 4 years. Position Overview
The Playgroup Assistant will support the Playgroup Leader and team in creating a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment that promotes children's learning through play. This role focuses on enhancing children's physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development while contributing positively to the overall ethos of the setting.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Support the planning and delivery of developmentally appropriate activities based on the Early Years curriculum.
Engage children in both structured and free-play opportunities to foster learning and creativity.
Ensure the safety, welfare, and wellbeing of all children in the playgroup at all times.
Assist with setting up and tidying away equipment and materials before and after sessions.
Promote and model positive behaviour and support children's social interactions.
Observe and document children's progress, and communicate any concerns to the Playgroup Leader.
Build positive relationships with parents, carers, and professionals, supporting effective communication and partnership.
Comply with safeguarding, child protection, and health and safety policies and procedures.
Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing professional development initiatives.
Essential Criteria
Minimum Level 2 qualification in Childcare, Early Years, or an equivalent.
Previous experience working with children aged 3-4 years in an educational or childcare setting.
A warm, nurturing, and enthusiastic approach to early years education.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Awareness of safeguarding and child protection standards.
Desirable Criteria
Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education or equivalent.
Additional certifications such as First Aid, Child Protection, or Food Hygiene.
Familiarity with the Northern Ireland Pre-School Curriculum.
Experience working in a funded playgroup or similar early years environment.
