JOB DESCRIPTION-PLAYGROUP ASSISTANT (Fixed Term Contract 1yr)
Job Title -
Playgroup Assistant
Responsible to
- Playgroup Manager
Purpose of job
- To assist in the daily routine of the preschool sessions. To work as part of the Playgroup team. To provide safe, high quality education and care for young children, under the direction of the manager.
Specifications -
Working hours will be arranged with the manager and Business manager. Wages are discussed at interview and are paid monthly over the year. There is an annual review of salary, every March, by the committee.
We would like all staff employed by the Playgroup to undertake training. This will include short courses and longer training where necessary
For this role we require at least 1 yrs experience working in childcare and a relevant level 2 qualification or higher
Main Duties
To assist in the daily routine and running of the playgroup, undertaking any necessary tasks and jobs.
To be flexible in undertaking tasks.
To assist in the planning of the curriculum and activities
To read the planned activities and curriculum, prepared before hand and afterwards review and evaluate the planned and spontaneous activities with other members of staff.
To prepare work before the session begins.
Advise the manager of any negative comments from parents about their children's development, the group, staff or children that may need further discussions with the manager or committee.
Advise the manager of any concerns over children, parents, staff, safety of equipment, confidentiality etc.
To attend staff meetings and help prepare activities that may be needed.
To attend training courses and meetings
To keep up to date with the training details provided by other members of staff.
To attend an annual appraisal or any meeting/supervision with the manager and committee thought to be necessary
To keep confidential any information regarding children, families and staff learned as part of the job.
Understand the policies and procedures of the playgroup
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders against them.
They must complete an Enhanced DBS Check
Personal Specifications -
Willingness to learn and undertake a variety of tasks
Ability to work as a team
Commitment to the Playgroup, children and families
Willingness to train in Early years and childcare.
Previous experience of working with young children essential
Friendly and flexible approach
Relevant Level 2 or 3 qualification essential
