About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Pneumatic Tool Engineer to join our innovative fossil preparation team. This is a rare opportunity to combine high-level engineering expertise with the fascinating world of paleontology. You will design, develop, and refine pneumatic scribes and related tools used to carefully extract and prepare fossils, ensuring the highest precision and reliability for our collection of prehistoric specimens.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Development

Engineer and prototype pneumatic scribes and other precision tools for fossil preparation. Improve existing pneumatic tools for enhanced performance, ergonomics, and reliability. Develop innovative solutions for challenging fossil extraction and preparation scenarios.

Technical Oversight

Conduct performance testing, stress analysis, and durability assessments. Ensure all tools meet safety standards and engineering best practices. Troubleshoot and provide solutions for operational challenges in the lab and field.

Collaboration & Innovation

Work closely with paleontologists and fossil preparators to understand technical requirements and practical constraints. Translate scientific needs into engineering specifications. Document designs, specifications, and testing procedures.

Continuous Improvement

Research new materials, technologies, and pneumatic systems to enhance tool performance. Implement iterative improvements based on user feedback and technical testing.
Essential Skills & Experience

Qualified professional engineer (Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering preferred). Proven experience designing pneumatic or precision mechanical tools. Strong CAD and engineering simulation skills (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent). Experience with prototyping, materials selection, and manufacturing processes. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills to work with scientists and technical staff.
Desirable Attributes

Experience in laboratory, field, or scientific equipment design. Knowledge of vibration-based tools or pneumatics in delicate material handling. Interest or experience in paleontology, geology, or museum curation.
