  • Duration: 12 months Secondment / Fixed Term Contract with the potential to go permanent. (Please note, secondments are subject to line manager approval, please discuss this with them before applying). This role is a full-time opportunity, flexible working patterns will be considered.
  • Location: This role is currently based in London Waterloo General Offices although other locations will be considered by the hiring manager.
  • Band & Salary: 8 (Equivalent 2B xc2xa371,163 - xc2xa381,661 per annum), please note that any salary offered will be within the advertised salary range and is dependent upon experience
We're looking for a dynamic and passionate Policy and Advocacy Lead for a 12 month secondment/FTC with the possibility to either be extended or made permanent. You will spearhead our railfreight policy development whilst also raising the profile of railfreight. If you're ready to make a significant impact and lead transformative projects, we want to hear from you!About the role (External)As our Policy and Advocacy Lead, you will be at the forefront of shaping the future of railfreight policy. You will lead the development of freight policy, building strong sector support and achieving clear, actionable outcomes. Your expertise will guide the creation of innovative recommendations for policy, ensuring they are well-researched and impactful. You will collaborate with industry leaders align and advance our policy objectives.You will also be leading the work on raising the profile of railfreight. In our mission to grow railfreight we need to increase others understanding of railfreight, the benefits it brings to the country, so we can move from 'and freight' to 'think freight'Your role will involve leading consultations and workshops, developing critical documents, and advising on organisational models. You will also mentor junior policy specialists, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.Essential Criteria
  • In depth knowledge of railfreight, rail, and logistics policy.
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven capability in cross-sector policy development.
  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex information and identify opportunities.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Confidence in leading others and fostering a collaborative team culture.
