We have a great opportunity for an experienced Policy and External Affairs professional to support our work in Wales around patient safety and health service improvement.

The General Medical Council (GMC) helps protect patients and improve UK medical education and practice by supporting medical students, doctors, educators and healthcare providers. We\xe2\x80\x99re looking for a Wales Policy and External Affairs professional to support our work at the heart of healthcare in Wales.

This is a varied and fast-paced role, working closely with other members of the Wales team and the wider GMC. You\xe2\x80\x99ll be responsible for promoting our work with key stakeholder groups, through drafting consultation responses, policy papers and briefings all the while ensuring that other GMC colleagues are aware of political, policy and legislative developments in Wales that have the potential to impact on our work.

You\xe2\x80\x99ll have a proven understanding of the Welsh political environment and healthcare policies and a strong background in public affairs, stakeholder management, communications, or engagement. Along with a passion for influencing and informing positive health policy, you\xe2\x80\x99ll need excellent communication skills. The ideal candidate for this role is an excellent communicator and who can problem-solve, analyse, and present complex information clearly. As a Wales Policy and External Affairs Officer, you\xe2\x80\x99ll work in our Wales team based in Cardiff. Our friendly workplace is built around personal and professional wellbeing and, even pre-pandemic, we were advocates of flexible working. You\xe2\x80\x99ll also support our external affairs and policy work, working closely with the Policy and External Affairs Manager and colleagues across the wider section.

This is interesting and rewarding role in a changing environment where you\xe2\x80\x99ll also provide strategic advice to the GMC leadership team, identify new opportunities for collaborative projects and ensure stakeholders have a shared understanding of mutual issues, agendas and goals.

This is a hybrid role between home working and office working, you\xe2\x80\x99ll work 2 days a week in the office, or more if you prefer. We may ask you to attend the office on additional days where necessary, for example team meetings.
