This role can be performed remotely from within the UK, with period days at BACP House in Lutterworth for staff events, team meetings, 1 to 1's and as required.


At BACP, our Policy Intern will assist members of the Policy and Public Affairs Department to deliver a range of policy, public affairs and campaigning objectives; providing ongoing assistance with analysis, researching and briefing on policy and parliamentary developments across the UK. This internship is an ideal opportunity for an ambitious graduate with a passion for policy and mental health who is seeking a career in policy and public affairs.


Accountabilities:



To undertake ongoing research around BACP's key campaigning areas and other policy issues of interest to BACP to help inform the policy and public affairs work of the Department. To summarise key public policy and legislative developments relevant to counselling and psychotherapy produced by Governments across the four nations.


To provide ongoing support with our various policy activities, including developing content, analysis of policy developments and summaries of stakeholder reports.


Assisting team colleagues by coordinating and helping to respond to relevant government, parliamentary and stakeholder consultations and inquiries.


To assist with the development of campaigning tools for members to support our lobbying around counselling and psychotherapy.

To attend and report back on key meetings/events with stakeholders across the UK, and in the UK's Parliaments and Assemblies.


To provide ongoing secretariat support for a 12-month Commission into the Future of Counselling and Psychotherapy and the MoU on Conversion Therapy


To support the Head of PaPA with a review of BACP's policy position statements and development of a suite of policy briefings


To assist with the development and maintenance of databases of Parliamentarians and other key stakeholders and review of the Department's electronic files of parliamentary and public affairs material


Preparing Political Monitoring Briefings, providing information for media and journal articles and in ensuring the Departments webpages remain up to date and current


Knowledge & experience:

A degree in politics or a related field, or in psychology An interest and passion for public affairs with an interest in the mental health agenda Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent planning and organisational skills, demonstrating an ability to work on own initiative, to organise and prioritise workload, whilst adhering to agreed deadlines. Experienced in the use of Word, Excel, Outlook, internet, and databases, demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work independently without close supervision, as well as part of a team with a willingness to work with others to achieve desired outcomes. Good interpersonal skills with the ability to deal with both internal and external stakeholders efficiently and professionally. Have a flexible approach to work with an ability to handle multiple tasks. Committed to delivery high quality customer service. * Enthusiastic and reliable.
