The Role



The policy and research team is at the heart of the organisation. You'll be part of a team that is built up of experienced, passionate, and enthusiastic payroll professionals who keep the payroll profession informed, compliant, and connected to government developments. Their collective aim is to support the pay professions through research, education and representation. They deliver this using a personal and practical approach, ensuring the impact of change on the payroll industry is interpreted and explained in clear and easy to understand language.

If successful, you will work with the payroll community through a multitude of platforms, including social media, government forums, working groups, publications, Think Tanks, and roundtable events to name a few. They regularly lead or co-deliver presentations that cover topical content to a variety of audiences, both online and face to face. The successful individual will be a capable writer, and able to undertake research actively independently. This should be relayed to members through the organisations website's, news pages, social media, published articles, factsheets, and webcasts etc.

Specific responsibilities



Managing the organisations website's news pages, distilling complex policy changes into actionable, digestible insights for members

Delivering authoritative updates via webinars and events, including the annual BeConnected tax year briefings and multiple BeKnowledgeable sessions focused on emerging legislative topics

Facilitating Think Tanks with government departments and policy officials, ensuring our members' voices shape consultations and calls for evidence

Representing the Institute, the members and the wider profession in Government forums and working groups, advocating for payroll professionals and embedding their perspectives in policy decision-making

Leading the development of the organisations Payroll Insights suite, annual benchmarking reports covering in-house teams, outsourced providers, and individual professionals

Conducting ad-hoc research to spotlight critical issues and inform industry-wide improvements

Serving as respected speakers at external events, delivering up-to-date legislative briefings and reinforcing the strategic value of payroll

Establish strong working relationships with key government officials, payroll professionals and other subject matter experts

Being responsible together with other policy and research team members for the production and / or the proofing, for accuracy, of the following communications:

Published articles

Legislative update presentations and webinars

Factsheets

Creation of surveys and quick polls

Reports, whitepapers and consultation responses

Webcasts

Social media communications

Media interviews.

Knowledge, skills and experience



My client wants your passion for payroll to shine, with energy, enthusiasm and a desire to support, influence and shape the industry for the future

Significant operational payroll experience is essential; pensions experience desirable

CIPP qualified to Foundation Degree (level five) - or a willingness to work towards equivalent CIPP qualification (PSC/PMD)

Strong oral and written communication skills

Confident and capable of building and maintaining a broad network across the payroll industry

The ability to prioritise and work to deadlines, whilst remaining agile and flexible to respond change.

Package



Salary 40,000 - 45,000 (depending on experience)

Working week 37 hour working week (full-time)

Annual leave 25 days annual leave per annum (plus bank holidays)

Location: Remote worker (occasional office attendance)
