Policy Officer (equalities)

Job Description

We're looking for a Policy Officer to join our Policy & Development team and help drive our work on mainstreaming equalities across the organisation. In this key role, you'll be part of a small, supportive team responsible for embedding the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) into SLAB's core activities: shaping policy, supporting colleagues, and making a difference for people across Scotland.





This is a great opportunity for someone with a strong grasp of equalities legislation, analytical thinking, and a collaborative mindset to influence how public services are designed and delivered.



Key responsibilities include:



Supporting teams across SLAB to complete and improve Equality Impact Assessments (EqIAs) Developing equality outcomes that align with our strategic goals and monitoring progress Leading on equality-related projects, including training delivery, stakeholder engagement, data analysis, and reporting Ensuring compliance with Scottish specific duties and wider equalities legislation Working closely with colleagues at all levels, including senior management, to champion and deliver on our equality commitments.

To succeed in this role, you will need:



A strong understanding of equalities legislation and experience applying it in practice Proven ability to conduct or support EqIAs Excellent communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders Strong analytical skills and the ability to produce clear, evidence-based recommendations A proactive, adaptable approach and good organisational skills to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
