Crystran has been manufacturing optics for over 30 years and specializes in fabricating precision-polished components (lenses / prisms) from a range of IR and UV materials. Working mainly with crystals and innovative glass, our products are used in a huge variety of applications spanning multiple industries. We have an extensive inventory of stock windows, lenses and prisms as well as raw material ingots ready for custom manufacture in our 1000m2 production facility, based in Poole (BH12 4PA).
Purpose of the Job:
Become a skilled Polishing Technician with initial focus on learning and supporting Crystran's traditional / long-standing polishing processes, alongside our more specialised and semi-automatic 'double-sided' polishing & lapping equipment (full training provided).
To polish specialised crystalline materials (flat windows) to an exacting flatness standard with minimal wastage. This includes learning how to operate and interpret measurement results from a wide range of metrology equipment including: thickness micrometers and surface flatness interferometers.
To work cleanly and safely within Health & Safety guidelines, keeping work areas clean and tidy at all times.
Main Duties (full training provided):
Practical production work and training - machine set-up, operation, component measurements and crystal cleaning using manual (wiping) and ultra-sonic methods.
(31 hrs/week)
Cleaning work areas and routine machine maintenance.
(2 hrs/week)
Discussing work with Supervisor.
(3 hrs/week)
Responsible For:
The efficient production of polished windows ('plate polished' or 'double-sided polished') to meet internal & external customer expectations
The day-to-day cleaning & maintenance of all our polishing equipment & working areas
Accurate recording of information on route-cards
Qualifications & Experience Required:
At least 5 years experience of working in a production environment (ideally in the machining industry)
GCSE (or equivalent) in maths
Ability to conduct close-up visual inspection (an eye for detail)
Ability to handle delicate and expensive optical components (manual dexterity)
Qualifications & Experience Desired:
Previous working experience involving the reading and understanding technical drawings / specifications
Experience of operating complex machinery in a production environment
Salary Range & Benefits:-
25,000 to 28,500 depending on experience
25 days holiday with up to 5 day annual carry-over

- Part years are calculated pro-rata after a successful probationary period
