Job Description

The PBS Practitioner will play a key role in supporting children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Learning Disabilities (LD), and behaviours that challenge. The post-holder will use evidence-based PBS approaches to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate support strategies that improve quality of life and reduce restrictive practices. They will also deliver training and coaching to staff teams to ensure consistent, person-centred support.

Key Responsibilities



1. Assessment & Planning



Conduct functional behaviour assessments (FBA) and develop individualised Positive Behaviour Support plans. Ensure plans are person-centred, values-driven, and co-produced with young people, families, and staff teams. Regularly review and update PBS plans, reflecting progress and changing needs.

2. Implementation & Direct Support



Model and embed PBS strategies in practice, coaching staff in real-time situations. Support staff teams to reduce restrictive practices and promote proactive, preventative approaches. Work alongside multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) including education, health, and social care professionals.

3. Training & Development



Deliver PBS and behaviour management training to care staff, ensuring teams are confident and competent in applying strategies. Provide ongoing mentoring, reflective practice sessions, and debriefing following incidents. Promote a culture of learning, safeguarding, and continuous improvement.

4. Quality Assurance & Reporting



Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of PBS interventions through data collection and analysis. Maintain clear and accurate records, reports, and outcome measures in line with regulatory and agency standards. Contribute to service audits, CQC inspections, and organisational development.

Essential Criteria



Minimum of 2 years' experience supporting children/young people with Autism, Learning Disabilities, and behaviours that challenge. Demonstrable experience of writing, implementing, and reviewing PBS plans. Skilled in conducting functional behaviour assessments and applying evidence-based interventions. Experience in delivering training and coaching to staff teams. Strong understanding of safeguarding, children's rights, and person-centred approaches. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.

Desirable Criteria



Qualification in Positive Behaviour Support, Applied Behaviour Analysis, Psychology, or related field. Training qualification (e.g., PTLLS, Level 3 Education & Training, or equivalent). Experience working within regulated services (CQC or Ofsted). Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and low-arousal approaches.

Pay: 30,000.00-35,000.00 per year
