About the role

The LMCB is a UCL department within the Faculty of Life Scientists where eighteen programme leaders and 100 staff and PhD students work together to understand the fundamental principles of cell and tissue biology relevant to human disease. In the Chubb Lab, funded by Wellcome, you will aim to understand how cells react to a complex set of signal inputs to make decisions. To deliver this role effectively you will need ideally need a combination of excellent understanding of molecular, cell and development biology, ideally with a strong quantitative background and experience as well the ability to establish effective and collaborative relationships. We will also consider highly motivated candidates with backgrounds in physics, mathematics, engineering and computer science and train the relevant biology. Interview Date(s) are scheduled for: October/November 2025 Research Fellows - 'Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (salary 37,332 - 39,980 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.' About you

The successful candidate will be will be part of a highly productive research team studying how cells make decisions about their fate, at the LMCB. This position will require working together with the principal investigator and other members of the team in carrying out highly innovative research in quantitative cell and developmental biology. We are seeking a highly motivated and creative scientist to join the our team efforts to understand the fundamental rules of cell decision-making in complex signalling environments, using state-of-art imaging, transcriptomic, molecular genetic, modelling and data science approaches. The candidate should possess: o a PhD in a relevant biomedical discipline, or a concrete plan to defend a PhD thesis within a short timeframe o a good knowledge of the biology of developmental and cell biology o an extensive knowledge of research techniques and methodologies related to live cell imaging and image analysis, and extracting data from complex live cell and tissue imaging datasets o experience building mathematical models, evaluating these with respect to data and designing and carrying out new experimental approaches to test model predictions o a good research track with a record of high-quality publications, collaborations, and other contributions to the scientific community o experience of leading and managing a research project o ability to demonstrate a deep knowledge of own research background and to effectively communicate research achievements to a specialist and to a lay audience o willingness to contribute to a supportive and collaborative environment among team members and to advocate for and promote an endeavor of equality, diversity, and inclusion among colleagues and other LMCB members.
