Post type: Full time, Fixed term for 2 years

Hours per week: 40 (including lunch)

The postholder will be employed by the University of Reading and working in a multidisciplinary team at Syngenta (Jealott\'s Hill, UK).

This position forms part of the (KTP) funded by Innovate UK. It is a 24-month fixed term contract based full-time at Syngenta and provides the opportunity to develop and embed a multiscale mathematical modelling process to inform product development within Syngenta\'s Product Safety Development Function.

Apply your skills to develop and embed an innovative new mathematical modelling framework that connects chemical-protein interactions, cell level pathway information and whole body-scale physiology to predict when crop protection active ingredient concentrations lead to toxic adverse outcomes in humans and animals.

You will have

  • A PhD or equivalent in a quantitative science or mathematics relevant to applied mathematics (or expected to gain PhD shortly)
Essential skills we require as a minimum
  • Ability to formulate mathematical models of real world problems
  • Knowledge of solving and analysing systems of nonlinear ODEs
  • Able to work comfortably within a large multidisciplinary team and independently
  • Ability to competently converse with life scientists to inform model development and testing
  • Able to effectively communicate mathematical concepts and results to a non-mathematical audience
  • Demonstrate the desire and ability to lead on a commercial project with an understanding of the multi-dimensional nature of a KTP project
