Job Description

We are seeking a full-time

Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Batteries for Aerospace Applications

to join Prof Paul Shearing's research group at the Department of Engineering Science at Begbroke Science Park. The post is funded by Innovate UK and is fixed-term to 30th April 2026.

The CEBD project is an ambitious programme to develop the first category enhanced battery powered eVTOL. The project combines industrial and academic expertise to develop and deliver a zero carbon emission aircraft while also enabling a number of cross cutting research and development activities with the potential to have substantial benefits across the UK aerospace and battery sectors.

The project will be delivered collaboratively by academic and industry researchers providing a pathway to revolutionise zero carbon flight and translate research outcomes to real world impact.

The post holder will be required to carry out research in the area of cell characterisation and safety by examining the thermal and electrical responses of cells and modules in realistic drive cycle scenarios. This activity will link closely with the design of BMS and cooling systems to maximise the safety of the developed propulsion system.
