The role

Applications are invited for an up to 30-month postdoctoral Research Assistantship in Number Theory in the School of Mathematics at the University of Bristol. The research project will study regular models of general curves and their arithmetic invariants (such as Birch--Swinnerton-Dyer invariants and Euler factors). A particular focus will be put on explicit computations. This project is in collaboration with Dr Celine Maistret and Prof. Tim Dokchitser.

The position comes with travel allowances, a laptop computer and teaching opportunities if desired. The starting date is flexible.

This positon is open ended with fixed funding until 31/03/2026.

What will you be doing?

  • Carrying out research related to the goals of the project, both independently and with the project supervisor.
  • Writing the results of research in a form that is appropriate for peer-reviewed scientific journals or conferences.
  • Presenting research results at seminars, scientific conferences and workshops.
You should apply if

Applicants should have (or be about to receive) a PhD in mathematics and have a proven record in the broad area of Arithmetic Geometry with experience in computational number theory.
