About the role


Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Neuromorphic Materials Development to work under the supervision of Professor Robert Hoye for a period of up to 24 months funded by the EPSRC.

This is an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to work on materials for neuromorphic computing. This will be part of the UK Neuromorphic Computing Hardware Semiconductor Innovation Knowledge Centre (Neuroware), which is a consortium of several Universities and companies. The Hoye Group's focus within this consortium is on developing emerging materials for distributed intelligence. We have extensive experience on developing materials for indoor photovoltaics, including BiSBr, Sb2S3 and metal-halide perovskites. Here, our focus is on applying these energy harvesting devices for edge computing, and on developing materials for low-power in-memory computing as well. We will be closely collaborating with the group of Prof. Harish Bhaskaran in the Department of Materials.

About you


Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Physics or Engineering, (

or be close to completion

) prior to taking up the appointment. The research requires expertise in materials chemistry. This includes the synthesis of inorganic compounds (as thin films, nanocrystals, powders or single crystals), characterisation (structural, optical, optoelectronic, chemical), and the ability to understand and interpret computations.

You will be expected to manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.

The post will be based in the Department of Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, South Parks Road, OX1 3QR and is available as soon as possible.
