Job description

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the group of Professor Rachel Tribe in the Preterm Birth research group at St Thomas\' Campus, King\'s College London. This project is in collaboration with researchers based at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden.

This post will be focused on investigating a novel treatment strategy for preterm birth using human decidual stromal cells isolated from healthy term pregnancy. We are looking for someone that has a background in animal research and that has experience in immunology. The postholder will be involved in testing this treatment in different murine models of preterm birth. You will be expected to engage in lab activities (lab meetings, general lab housekeeping), conduct and analyse experiments, keep up to date with scientific literature in the field, lead your project, write manuscripts, present at national and international conferences and collaborate with others. You will also be expected to help co-supervise students. We are looking for someone that can be independent as well as engaged in our group and participate in our discussions.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until 31st December 2023

This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent

Key responsibilities

  • Refining and implement research protocols.
  • Work both semi-independently and collaboratively.
  • Carry out experiments and analysis of data.
  • Provide regular research updates and data regularly to the research supervisors.
  • Develop new techniques and projects.
  • Attend and, as appropriate, present research findings and papers at internal academic meetings and external professional conferences, and to contribute to the internal and external visibility of the department.
  • Supervise academic work by undergraduates, masters and doctorate students.
  • Facilitate existing and future collaboration and networking which engages and supports the activities of the project.
  • Contribute to publications arising from this project.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be relevant to the role outline.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1. BSc and PhD in relevant subjects

2. Evidence of continuing professional development

3. Proven interest in Women\'s Health/Pregnancy research

4. Proven experience of working with preclinical models of pregnancy

5. Holds a current Home Office personal licence

6. Committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, actively addressing areas of potential bias

Desirable criteria

7. An understanding of preterm birth research

8. The capability to plan and execute experimental work without close supervision

Candidates are strongly encouraged to specifically address the essential criteria outlined in the Person Specification in their covering letter.

Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
