The Opportunity:
Our research is focused on understanding how genetic changes in the non-coding genome can impact gene regulatory mechanisms, alter developmental processes and ultimately affect human craniofacial shape and function in health and disease. In this project, we are interested to investigate changes to gene regulatory landscapes across development as facial progenitor cells differentiate into skeletal cell-types. You will utilise in vitro models of facial development and leverage a combination of cutting-edge epigenomic methods, genome editing and synthetic biology approaches to gain fundamental insights into mechanisms of gene regulation, and human disease biology.
Your skills and attributes for success:

• Interest in mechanisms of gene regulation and enhancer biology in development and disease.

• Experience in generating and analysing epigenomic and transcriptomic datasets (e.g. ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN, 3C-based methods, RNA-seq etc), cell culture, in vitro differentiation methods and genetic engineering (preferable but not essential).

• Ph.D. (or near completion) in a relevant science subject.

• Proven track record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

About the Team:
A deep understanding of human genome function - particularly for the non-coding genome - is an outstanding grand challenge. Our mission is to discover how our genome controls the function of molecules, cells and tissues, in health and disease, connecting human genetic variation to phenotype.
Multidisciplinary HGU research programs embrace genetic, computational, biochemical, cellular, model organism and clinical approaches, to gain meaningful insights across scales and dynamic processes, with cross-cutting themes in 4D Cellular Medicine and Genome Interpretation.

The MRC Human Genetics Unit is part of the Institute of Genetics and Cancer (IGC). This partnership with CRUK Edinburgh Centre and Centre for Genomic and Experimental Medicine Centre aims to understand development and disease by using the latest developments in genetic, genomic, cellular and clinical science. The partnership provides access to state of the art scientific facilities, scientific infrastructure and business support, including on site Advanced Imaging Resource, Animal Model support, Bioinformatics Analysis Core, DNA sequencing, Flow Cytometry, Mass Spectrometry, HTPU microarray.
