Job Description

The School of Computer Science and Informatics is seeking to appoint an individual to work on rigorous methods to address the risks of generative AI systems. The primary focus will be on techniques on probability estimation of rare events (such as jailbreak and social deceptive) in generative AI systems. More broadly, the research can also be on developing novel methods to specify, construct, evaluate, verify, and monitor GenAI systems, with a preference on methods that can provide provable guarantees. You will be expected to have a PhD in computer science or relevant disciplines, with solid background in theory of probability and statistics, machine learning, or formal methods. The post is available from 2 March 2026 until 1 March 2028.



If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
