Charity People is delighted to be working with MHS Homes to recruit for a PR and External Communications Coordinator who will work within their friendly and passionate team on a one year contract basis.
MHS Homes is the largest social housing provider in the Kent area and currently manages over 9500 homes in the Medway, Maidstone, Gravesham, Dartford and Tonbridge & Malling areas. The group provides safe, secure and affordable homes as a stepping stone to a better future. With a robust strategic plan in place, the organisation believes that everyone should have a decent home and is driven by their ultimate ambition which is to help end the housing crisis in North Kent by providing safe and sustainable homes to those who need them.
Salary: 28,860 per annum
Location: The position offers hybrid working with the postholder ideally on site in the Chatham office three days per week
Contract: interim one year contract to cover an internal secondment, the role is a full time position
As PR and External Communications Coordinator you'll work within a small but mighty communications team, working collaboratively to help keep the organisation connected with its customers and key stakeholders by planning and producing on and offline content. You'll also be responsible to building effective relationships with local and industry media outlets and other partners, creating opportunities for MHS to be a voice for positive change.
Key responsibilities within the position will include:

  • As a gifted storyteller, you'll produce high quality content for key audiences, and adapt this for MHS Homes to use across corporate channels
  • Keep up to date with who MHS needs to know within the local and industry media landscape; have an eye on developing stories, opportunities and issues that might affect the organisation, and develop appropriate content for media and partners to use
  • Respond to media enquiries and undertake support of reputational management
  • Coordinate the organisations cyclical communications calendar
  • Working with colleagues internally to provide advice on how to communicate well with stakeholders including advising on messaging, tone of voice and channel mix
  • Work with external creative suppliers including copywriters, videographers and designers to ensure they deliver on time and to brief
  • Plan, manage, and deliver engaging social media campaigns to increase viability and build understanding of MHS's purpose
We'd love to see applications from individuals with the following skills and experience:
  • Experience of planning and delivering communications across a range of channels, including digital channels, in a corporate setting
  • Experience of building effective relationships with journalists and media outlets
  • A good understanding of the role of online/ social media in managing corporate reputation
  • Highly organised, and able to manage competing priorities
  • A skilled writer and storyteller, with excellent attention to detail
  • Motivated, consistent and reliable
  • A passion to innovate and find new and better ways to tell MHS's story
  • Confident to collaborate with colleagues at all levels across the organisation
