Director of Income Generation and the Executive Team

Responsible for:

This role will work as part of the Income Generation Team and will support projects right across the hospice. The role will need excellent copywriting skills to navigate through clinical, fundraising and information about the hospice and what we do. With a keen eye on developing the stories from our service users and delivering those to elevate our impact in both the press, local media outlets and our own publications and communication channels. Reporting to the Director of Income Generation and working across the organisation, we're looking for somebody who is creative, fast paced and diligent in their communications. The ability to build trusted relationships is key.

Hours:

The role is 37.5 hours per week - may involve some evening and weekend work.

Location:

Hybrid - 40% remote and 60% hospice, Aylesford, Maidstone

Salary:

35,678 per annum

About the Role

We are seeking a PR and Copywriting Manager to join our team and help tell our story across media, digital and community platforms. This is an opportunity to help make a real difference.

Main Responsibilities:



Copywriting & Content Creation



Write, edit, and proofread engaging copy for campaigns, press releases, website, newsletters, social media, supporter communications, hospice literature and fundraising materials.

Ensure all content is consistent with brand tone of voice, messaging, and style guidelines.

Identify and craft compelling narratives that highlight our brand's unique value proposition and position it as an authority in the community.
Create compelling case studies and human-interest stories to inspire and engage audiences.

Manage our patient and family care stories database so that stories and consent can easily be accessed.

Work closely with the Inpatient Unit, Family Support Team, Education Team and Community Team to identify stories and content opportunities.

Media Relations and PR



Develop and implement comprehensive PR strategies to increase positive media coverage and enhance brand awareness and reputation. Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists across various media sectors to secure earned media coverage. Draft and distribute press releases, media statements, and feature pitches. Act as the first point of contact for press enquiries. Liaise sensitively and professionally with service users and their loved ones. Monitor media coverage and produce regular reports on PR impact. Work with Fundraising and communication colleagues to support campaign and event planning and promotion. Promote a culture of care, respect and gratitude for all gifts, donations, support and those who share their story with us. Ensure case study contributors are informed of any future repurposing of their story.

Strategic Communications



Work closely with the wider Marketing & Communications team to ensure copy and PR activity supports organisational objectives. Identify opportunities for thought leadership and positioning of key spokespeople. Help identify quotes from our care story archive to support new marketing materials. Contribute to crisis communications planning and response.

Measurement & Reporting



Track and evaluate the impact of PR campaigns and content performance. Use insights to improve reach, engagement, and effectiveness of communications.

Essential Criteria for the role



Proven professional experience as a copywriter and/or PR manager (agency or in-house).

Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.

Strong understanding of media relations, PR strategy, and press office operations.

Demonstrable ability to adapt writing style for different audiences and channels.

Experience producing high-quality press releases, articles, and feature content.

Established media contacts or proven experience in building relationships with journalists.

Ability to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple projects under pressure.

Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.

Proficiency in using digital platforms (social media, CMS, email marketing tools).

Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate campaign impact.

Desirable Criteria



Experience working in the charity, health, or not-for-profit sector.

Knowledge of SEO and content optimisation.

Crisis communications experience.

Familiarity with design and multimedia tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe, video editing).
