Say Aphasia is a charity supporting people living with aphasia--a language and
communication disability that can affect a person's ability to speak, understand, read, or write, often caused by stroke or brain injury. Our local support groups offer a safe,
welcoming environment where people with aphasia and their families can connect, share, and support one another.
Role Purpose
We're looking for a creative and proactive PR Support Volunteer to help raise
awareness of our aphasia support groups. Your role will be to promote these groups in
your local community and online, ensuring people with aphasia and their families know
where to find us and how we can support them.
Key Responsibilities
? Research and identify local outlets and community hubs where information about
our support groups can be shared, such as:
? Local newspapers and magazines
? Community halls, fairs, and bulletin boards
? Local Facebook groups and online forums
? Wellbeing centres, surgeries, GP practices, and health centres
?Citizens Advice centres and local directories
? Information centres and other relevant public spaces
? Write and distribute engaging content such as:
? Press releases or short articles for local media
? Flyers, posters, and bulletin content
? Posts for local online groups or community websites
? Build relationships with local media, community organisations, and relevant
contacts to spread awareness.
? Keep track of where information has been shared and follow up when needed.
? Report progress and share updates with the Say Aphasia team.
What We're Looking For
? Strong written and verbal communication skills
? Confident engaging with community groups, media contacts, and organisations
? Organised and self-motivated
? Some knowledge of PR, marketing, or communications (desirable but not
essential)
? A passion for supporting people affected by aphasia and a belief in inclusive
communication
