Job Description

Strategic 1. To work in conjunction with Radiology service leads, to Identify development and training needs of the current and future Diagnostic Radiology workforce, in line with individual staff needs and service requirement in response to national, regional and local developments in radiology education and recruitment 2. To interpret information being presented locally, regionally and nationally on opportunities for career progression for existing staff in key specialist areas including, but not exclusive to: CT, MRI, US and Cardiology and to advise the trust of these opportunities, liaising with relevant modality leads as appropriate 3. To discuss, agree and implement an agreed programme for delivering such opportunities as identified in point 3, being sensitive to the needs of service delivery and minimum staffing numbers in specialty areas 4.



To deliver training opportunities in line with agreed budgets/ service development and in a manner which promotes radiology as a career at WAHT 5. To understand the focus of HEE in sustainable workforce planning and the funding support available for these ventures 6. To attend, contribute to or lead on lectures, presentations, workshops, recruitment events and NHS careers promotional events locally, regionally and nationally as required Operational - Specific 7. Hold a PgC in Education.



8. To form strong working relationships with key internal stakeholders including: a. Radiology management team b. Radiologists c.



Superintendents/Modality leads/Team Leaders d. Practice Education facilitators e. Other Practice educators within the Trust f. The trusts apprenticeship team g.



Radiographers/Sonographers h. Undergraduate students i. Apprentices j. Assistant practitioners k.



Clinical Support staff 9. You will have excellent communication skills to liaise with a wide range of individuals including internal and external bodies HEIs, SCoR, HCPC, HEE, local schools, colleges and apprentice schemes etc 10. The post holder will be visible, proactive and engaging in the department 11. Facilitate and support the development and implementation of preceptorship programmes for newly appointed staff, including international recruits 12.



Be responsible for engaging with local and regional preceptorship programmes to support new staff in the department in line with local and HEE requirements 13. Be an accessible point of contact for individuals in regard to education 14. Provide pastoral care and signpost trainees for IT issues, welfare support and other day to day challenges 15. Liaise with trainees, departments, clinical supervisors and mentors in relation to training rotas and placement capacities taking into account the multiple and overlapping work streams for trainees and newly appointed radiographers who require additional initial support.



16. Support with recruitment of radiographers, apprentices and other radiology staff as required 17. Devise support mechanisms and assessment criteria in all aspects of training 18. Assist in coordinating appraisals for individuals employed directly by the trust 19.



Monitor and support individuals with achieving 100% compliance in mandatory training 20. Be responsible for keeping such requests in line with the Higher Education Institutes course timetable and requirements 21. Inform educational supervisors and department leads about trainees responsibilities, workplace based leaning goals and assessments. Where learning objects do not exist or are unclear, you will help to develop these in conjunction with the department leads for that area 22.



Observe, identify and notify team leaders of performance concerns for individuals on training programmes. Where possible, you will address these concerns or implement an action plan 23. Support learners with e-portfolio or evidence for training or professional registration 24. Lead on the planning and implementation of workplace-based assessments in conjunction with student trainers and mentors.



This may require the post holder to be signed off as an assessor for multiple HEIs. 25. Attend and support trainees in meetings with various HEIs 26. Attend and report on education management meetings with key stakeholders 27.



Establish and maintain effective communication within the department and other teams within the trust 28. Continue to develop and learn in keeping with the 4 pillars of advanced practice 29. Attend/participate in the monthly governance meetings as required 30. Promote respectful and supportive environment for ideas, work practice and development of knowledge within teams 31.



Work with the department managers to ensure the ongoing performance of the radiology service is maintained and to assist in the development of policy and protocols as required 32. Maintain quality standards and look for service improvement opportunities in conjunction with the QG team 33. Continually reflect on own practice and learning in open and honest environment 34. Adopt a flexible attitude to work in line with service needs 35.



Participate in the departmental appraisal process 36. Participate in curriculum development and joint professional development activities with other agencies e.g CHEC learning and development team and various Universities Operational - General 37. Ensure that you use all equipment safely and in accordance with operating/manufacturer instructions and that you and all staff using equipment are competent and trained to do so 38. Be proficient on radiology systems, such as the Radiology Information System (RIS) and the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) to ensure that patient information is stored and retrieved accurately 39.



Participate in the vetting of appropriate referrals in line with radiology authorisation guidelines 40. Ensure a clean, tidy and safe working environment, adhering to the cleaning SOPs in place for each clinical area 41. Promptly report any equipment failures 42. Work flexibly to cover annual leave and sickness absence, working additional sessions as required/agreed 43.



Maintain fitness to practice with the Professional Code of Conduct through Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and mandatory training 44. Be familiar with relevant Health and Safety policies 45. Wear the uniform provided and to promote the Radiology Directorate in a positive manner at all times 46. You have a responsibility for the identification of risks in your area which have a potential adverse effect on the Trusts ability to maintain quality of care and the safety of patients, staff and visitors, and for the taking of positive action to eliminate or reduce these risks where possible To enhance the patients experience 48. To be courteous and helpful towards patients, visitors, staff and referring clinicians/GPs and to offer a high quality service at all times. 49.



To provide first line assistance in the event of a patients query or complaint and escalating the matter to a more senior member of staff where appropriate. This will at times require a high level of communication skills to diffuse confrontational situations. The post holder is required to have knowledge of the Trusts Complaints Procedure To manage and develop the performance of the team 50. To assist in the training of both current and new members of staff, supporting them through their induction/preceptorship programmes as required 51.



To undertake a full range of radiographic duties and to train in other areas as required 52. To supervise the work and standards of Radiographers, Assistant Practitioners, Apprentice Radiographers and Radiographic Helpers 53. To assist with administrative tasks, such as but not limited to preparing staff rotas as required To ensure effective contribution to the delivery of the organisations objectives 54. To be familiar with and comply with all appropriate Trust and Radiology Directorate Policies, Procedures and Practices, making suggestions which could lead to improvements in the service 55.



To attend such courses/lectures/in-service training as required by the needs of the service and of this post 56. To ensure that Risk Management, Health and Safety Regulations, COSHH Regulations, Major Incident Plans and Ionising Radiation Regulations are adhered to, including the Local Rules, and to report accidents/untoward incidents/hazards to the Superintendent or most senior Radiographer on duty as soon as is 57. To be familiar with and uphold the quality standards of the Trust and Radiology Directorate, to be pleasant and polite to patients and other members of staff and to ensure a high quality service to patients at all times 58. To be familiar with the principles of clinical governance and to strive to maintain and improve the quality of patient care, showing courtesy and consideration at all times 59.



Act as a clinical role model for effective clinical leadership enabling and facilitating others to take forward initiatives 60. To assist in the collection of any information required for audit purposes 61. To attend and participate in clinical governance meetings
