About the role
The primary focus of this role is to support the growth of competence and confidence in clinical knowledge and skills in practice across the clinical teams based at Chestnut Tree House, to ensure patient safety and effective clinical risk management. This is achieved by facilitating the organisational competency framework, encouraging active learning and the transference of skills from underpinning theory to practice.
The post holder will work under the leadership of the Lecturer Practitioner/Head of Education role modelling evidence based best practice and competence in clinical skills across the clinical teams, encouraging individual enquiry and advocating a personal responsibility for learning. The post will support and develop staff to provide high quality, holistic, patient centered and compassionate care which meets the complex clinical needs of children and young people requiring special palliative care interventions and end of life care.
Essential criteria
Contribute to the development and maintenance of proficiency and a competency framework for care staff, registered and non-registered, including facilitation of continuing professional development days and the delivery and evaluation of associated training, in accordance with organisationally defined and derived outcomes
Establish and embed education, learning and research as priorities alongside clinical care and as essential components of quality care provision across all settings, promoting a culture of learning, enquiry, research and innovation across Chestnut Tree House
Work with team leaders and senior registered nurses to ensure robust orientation for new members of staff and students by maintaining, evaluating and continuing to develop the preceptorship and induction programmes
Demonstrate a working knowledge of Child and Adult Safeguarding procedures and endeavour at all times to uphold the rights of children and young people
Contribute to generic and child specific health and safety risk assessments as appropriate.
Maintain and develop knowledge and awareness of the local, national and international external environment to ensure that Chestnut Tree House Children's Hospice is proactively responding to opportunities and challenges relevant to education, learning and research
