About the Role

Douglas Grove Surgery in Witham are on the lookout for a capable and confident practice nurse to join our primary care team. We are flexible re hours to be worked and happy to discuss this with interested applicants - in the region of 28 hours per week. To be considered, you must be experienced in the full scope of general practice nursing duties.



The main responsibilities of the role include:


Undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, and performing diagnostic tests. Providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to ensure that patients' health and social care needs are met. General health and well-being promotion as well as creating individual, person-centred plans for patients with, or at risk of, a long term condition. Managing and treating long-term conditions, in line with national and local policies and the practice needs. Reviewing medication for therapeutic effectiveness, in accordance with evidence-based practice as well as national and practice protocols; working with patients to support their adherence to prescribed treatments. Prioritising health problems and intervening appropriately, to assist the patient in complex, urgent or emergency situations, including initiation of effective emergency care. Supporting and managing the health needs of women presenting for family planning and cervical cytology consultations. Implementing, and participating in, vaccination and immunisation programmes for both adults and children, including patients travelling abroad. Meeting the needs of patients presenting for opportunistic wound care. Hypertension review and management. Running asthma, COPD and diabetes clinics and reviews. New patient and health checks. Travel health advice and vaccinations. Infection control and health promotion. Support for QOF and enhanced services.

About the Candidate

All applicants should have the following qualifications, registrations, skills and experience:
Registered nurse with current NMC registration Prescribing qualification would be preferred Proven experience in a general practice or primary care setting Up-to-date with current protocols, PGDs, and best practice A team player with great communication skills Someone who takes initiative Someone who is flexible, reliable, and professional

Douglas Grove Surgery is a busy well-organised teaching practice, serving around 6500 patients. Supported by a multidisciplinary team including: GPs, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, HCAs, clinical pharmacists, FCPs, mental health nurses, care co-ordinators, social prescriber.
